  • Patent number: 11353827
Abstract: The frequency stability of an optical local oscillator is improved by locking a laser to a silicon Fabry-Perot cavity operating at a temperature near 124 K, where the coefficient of thermal expansion of silicon is near zero. The cavity is mounted inside a cryostat housed in a temperature-stabilized vacuum system that is surrounded by an isolating enclosure and supported by an active vibration platform. Laser light is steered with a superpolished mirror toward a superpolished focusing optic that couples the laser light into the cavity. Light reflected from the cavity is used to stabilize the laser via the Pound-Drever-Hall technique, while light transmitted through the cavity is used to stabilize the laser power. A resonant transimpedance amplifier allows the laser power to be reduced, which reduces heating of the cavity caused by residual absorption of the light.

  • Publication number: 20160277158
Abstract: A data communications troubleshooting device isolates the direction of signal interference relative to a cable splitter. The device includes a panel and a plurality of connection ports coupled to the panel. Each of the connection ports is positioned such that the panel replaces a signal splitter positioned in a splitter housing. The connection ports include an input port and a plurality of output ports. Each of a plurality of switches is coupled to an associated one of the output ports to selectively prevent transmission of a signal between the input port and the output port whereby signal loss is detectable as being related to a specific one of the output ports through manipulation of the switches.

  • Publication number: 20100246585
Abstract: The framer, also referred to as the scrambler/Reed-Solomon encoder (SRS), is a part of the transmitter and accepts user and control data in the form of one or more logical channels, partitions this data into frames, adds error correction codes, randomizes the data through a scrambler, and multiplexes logical channels into a single data stream. The multiplexed data is then passed to the constellation encoder as the next step in the formation of the VDSL symbol. The deframer, also referred as the descrambler/Reed-Solomon decoder (DRS), is part of the receiver and performs the inverse function of the framer.

  • Publication number: 20080046798
Abstract: A portable device (114) includes a power source (120), a volatile memory (118) requiring refreshing to avoid data loss, and a memory management module (116). The volatile memory (118) is operably coupled to the power source (120) for power. The memory management module (116) is operably coupled to the volatile memory (118). The memory management module (116) is also adapted to refresh the volatile memory (118) at a refresh rate which causes refresh-based errors and to correct the refresh-based errors. Also disclosed is a method for reduced power consumption by a volatile memory requiring refreshing to avoid data loss in which such a volatile memory is refreshed (122) at a refresh rate. All defective bits are detected (124) at the refresh rate. An error correction code is selected (126) for correcting the defective bits.

  • Publication number: 20060260734
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of making a decorated multilayer glass structure using a single firing step that includes that use of a crystallizing glass enamel composition that contains ingredients to ensure the complete burnout of the organic portion of the composition upon firing and bending of a mated pair of glass sheets. A benefit of the composition is that when applied to one sheet of a mated pair of glass sheets, it burns out completely during firing and bending of the pair. The presence of high levels of oxidizers in the composition ensures a supply of oxygen to enable combustion of the organic vehicle while firing the glass sheets and prior to the sintering of the enamel composition to only one glass sheet in a mated pair of decorated or colored glass sheets.

  • Publication number: 20060149586
Abstract: A method of utilizing and inventorying variable attributes for rooms associated with Hotels and other similar services. A database comprising multiple data sets is compiled, where the data sets available may comprise any of the following: room availability; room attributes; attribute weight; and Guest weight. The attribute weight reflects the perceived value of the attributes for a particular room. The Guest weight reflects the perceived value of the Guest as a continued business relationship. The data sets are combined, with the information comprising an inventory of data that is similar to available assets. When a room is requested with certain attributes, higher weighted Guests will be given rooms with a higher weight, and lower weighted guests are matched with rooms having a lower attribute weight. The system can continuously shuffle all rooms, prior to the Guest actually checking in, so as to maximize Guest satisfaction and revenue to the Hotel.

  • Publication number: 20060095490
Abstract: A method for storage for complex numbers that employs a shared exponent field is disclosed. Rather than each floating point component of an complex number having its own distinct signed mantissa and exponent fields, each component includes a distinct signed mantissa field and shares an exponent field, thereby increasing the possible size of each distinct signed mantissa field by as much as one half the number of bits formerly employed to store a single distinct exponent field.

  • Publication number: 20060095492
Abstract: A Fourier transform architecture and system for FFT and IFFT processing within multicarrier transceiver is disclosed that includes a programmable butterfly component, a memory and a programmable address generation unit. The architecture includes a butterfly component configured to perform a plurality of radix butterfly calculations, and a four bank memory configured to operate on sample data. The architecture further includes a programmable address generation unit coupled to the pipeline to enable the architecture to perform calculations independent of Fourier-based algorithms. A method for addressing memory banks for an FFT pipeline includes expressing an index in radix notation, computing a bank address for a bank memory, converting the bank address to a reduced size by ignoring one or more bits, and calculating the bank address within the reduced memory bank.

  • Patent number: 6798990
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to ensure that laser optical power does not exceed a “safe” level in a DC coupled open loop parallel optical link in the event that a fiber optic ribbon cable is broken or otherwise severed. A duplex parallel optical link includes a transmitter and receiver pair and a fiber optic ribbon that includes a designated number N of channels that cannot be split. The duplex transceiver includes a corresponding transmitter and receiver that are physically attached to each other and cannot be detached therefrom, so as to ensure safe, laser optical power in the event that the fiber optic ribbon cable is broken or severed. Safe optical power is ensured by redundant current and voltage safety checks, and the corresponding low duty cycle signal is generated by a safety pulse generator in the safety channel.
