  • Publication number: 20150044626
Abstract: Method for reducing abrasion caused by braces to the interior of a user's mouth are provided in which one of several types of polymeric materials are applied to the braces within the user's mouth and permitted to set, thereby providing an insulative coating of the braces that would otherwise scrape against the interior of the user's mouth and permitting the user to both eat and brush their teeth without substantially impacting the insulative property of the material or dislodging the material from the braces, the material being configured to be removable from the braces with tweezers or the like when the user desires to replace the material periodically. Such materials include compounds from the group consisting of hydrocolloids and elastomers.

  • Publication number: 20070034658
Abstract: An accessory rack for mounting on a vehicle is described. In an embodiment, the accessory rack includes an anchor that mounts to the frame and a stand that is supported by the anchor so as to provide a strong yet compact accessory rack. The small size provides potential benefits in the reduction of fuel consumption and/or reductions in wind noise in the event the user does not remove the accessory rack from the vehicle during periods of disuse. The accessory rack may include a stand configured to support standard sized carriers while providing improved ergonomics during installation of objects onto the carrier.

  • Patent number: 7031845
Abstract: A method for determining a matrix of expression levels corresponding to a set of biological targets (e.g., genes or gene fragments) and a set of biological samples, including obtaining a matrix of signal values corresponding to the set of biological targets; computing a vector of expression levels for a sample in the set of biological samples using the matrix of signal values; storing the vector of computed expression levels in a storage matrix; repeating the computing and storing steps for each sample in the set of biological samples; and outputting the storage matrix as the matrix of expression levels. The method, based on a linear programming formulation of the problem, works for both “promiscuous” probe array data, in which there may be multiple targets indicated by a single probe, and the “polygamous” case, in which there are multiple probes for a single target. The preferred method can also process data obtained from multiple SAGE analyses using multiple markers.

  • Patent number: 6910370
Abstract: A method of operating a gas turbine engine for testing, comprising: providing an aircraft on a tarmac, the aircraft having a gas turbine engine with an inlet; selecting a power setting for the engine that is capable of producing a vortex between the inlet and the tarmac; and inhibiting formation of the vortex. A suppressor for preventing a vortex between an inlet of a gas turbine engine on an aircraft and a tarmac. The suppressor comprises: a base facing the tarmac; and an inclined surface extending in a direction from the tarmac towards the inlet at an angle to the base. The suppressor prevents formation of the vortex.

  • Publication number: 20050064600
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for the detection of a material comprising ammonium nitrate and a sugar, the method comprising sensing for the presence of hydrogen isocyanate (HNCO). The present invention further provides an apparatus suitable for the examination of a material suspected of comprising ammonium nitrate and a sugar, the apparatus comprising heating means in thermal communication with a sample holder suitable for the containment of the material, the sample holder being in gaseous communication with sensing region, the apparatus being further provided with a means for inducing flow of gas from the sample holder to the sensing region and a means for sensing the presence of hydrogen isocyanate in the sensing region.

  • Patent number: 6116192
Abstract: A piezoelectric shocking device for training an animal to alter or avoid particular behaviors such as pulling on a leash, pressing against a fence, or in the instance of a horse, cribbing or wind sucking. The device includes an inner housing for receiving internal components, and an outer housing for receiving the inner housing. The inner housing is nested within the outer housing in a sliding fashion. The internal working components of the device include a piezoelectric ceramic crystal which, when struck with sufficient force, generates an electrical pulse. In order to capture this electrical pulse, electrical contacts are positioned on either end of the crystal and in direct contact therewith such that a force exerted on either electrical contact is transferred directly to the crystal. A hammer is provided for striking the first electrical contact with the force required to generate an electrical pulse.
