Patent number: 10620982Abstract: A method, executed by a computer, for deploying a virtual system includes collecting requirements for a computing system from a user, determining a component pattern corresponding to the user requirements, enabling a user to edit the component pattern, presenting the component pattern on a deployment design grid, and deploying a virtual system corresponding to the component pattern. The component pattern may correspond to one or more components and associated attributes, as well as a distribution for the components. In one embodiment, enabling a user to edit the component pattern includes reserving system resources for the components such that the system resources are available to the components at runtime. A computer system and computer program product corresponding to the method are also disclosed herein.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2015Date of Patent: April 14, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: David Avila, Terry M. Bleizeffer, Thuy T. Duong, Stephanie K. Hagadorn, Hugh E. Hockett

Publication number: 20180314500Abstract: A method includes presenting, on a display, a diagram. The presenting of the diagram includes presenting a first row that defines a location where objects of a first object type can be created, wherein a first ghosted object of a first object type is displayed in the first row. The first ghosted object represents a first creatable object of the first object type. The presenting of the diagram includes presenting a second row that defines a location where objects of a second object type can be created. The method also includes responsive to a first input to create a first object of the first object type in the first row, creating the first object of the first object type. Also in response to the first input, the method includes graphically changing the first ghosted object into the first object and presenting a second ghosted object of the second object type in the second row.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2018Publication date: November 1, 2018Inventors: Terry M. Bleizeffer, Nicholas C. Hawkes, Aimin Wu

Patent number: 7234118Abstract: A method and apparatus for compensating for deficiencies existing in programs to assist a user through installing a program. Polling the status of jobs requested by the user of a workstation is done so that the user may eventually be provided with status reports regarding the jobs being executed. The user can set parameters during loading of System Modification Program Extended (SMPE) libraries, install, migrate, fallback, remigrate and update procedures for the program. An indication is provided to a user of a workstation as steps of a task have been completed by the user. The health of catalog and directory databases may be verified before a migrate procedure is performed. The user of the program can be informed regarding parameters whose default values have changed, which parameters are of particular concern to the specific user.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1998Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Terry M.
