  • Publication number: 20090056243
Abstract: A method and apparatus for retrofitting existing escalator systems in a manner to positively limit relative movement between the escalator and the spaced-apart floors of a building during an earthquake.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 30, 2007
    Publication date: March 5, 2009
    Inventor: Terryle L. Sneed
  • Patent number: 6830133
Abstract: An apparatus for quickly, easily and adjustably connecting elevator car and counterweight guide rail support brackets to the walls of an elevator hoistway and also to either vertically or horizontally extend structural beams that are disposed within the elevator hoistway. Installation of the apparatus requires no welding operations to be performed in order to connect the brackets to the walls or to the beams. The apparatus uniquely includes cooperating support and connector brackets each of which has a plurality of strategically arranged, indexable connector holes that permit the necessary degree of adjustment of the brackets to properly position the guide rails within the hoistway.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 6, 2002
Date of Patent: December 14, 2004

  • Patent number: 6637580
Abstract: An escalator or moving stairway that is constructed to accommodate oscillation and lateral displacement of a first story relative to a second story of a building between which the escalator or moving stairway extends such as which may occur during an earthquake. The escalator includes novel telescoping connector mechanisms that are connected at one end to a structural support of the building and are connected at the other end to supporting trusses of the escalator in a manner to permit relative movement between the supporting trusses and the floors of the first and second stories of the building.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 5, 2002
Date of Patent: October 28, 2003

  • Patent number: 6196356
Abstract: A method and apparatus for installing elevator car and counterweight guide rails within an elevator hoistway of a building that requires no welding operations to be performed in order to connect the brackets together. The connector brackets of the invention include cooperating support and connector brackets each having a plurality of strategically arranged, indexable connector holes that permit the necessary degree of adjustment of the brackets to properly position the guide rails within the hoistway. Specially configured connector bolts are provided which impart substantial structural integrity to the interconnected bracket and positively preclude shifting of the interconnected brackets even as a result of projected seismic loading.
