  • Patent number: 5508138
Abstract: Image fixing device for use in electrophotographic apparatus, capable of suppressing gloss of fixed toner image, thus stably producing images of high quality and high level of fixing intensity over a long period of time. The fixing device has a fixing roller and a pressing roller which are contacted with each other and rotate to form therebetween a nip through which a paper supporting unfixed toner image is passed to have the toner image fixed to the paper. The fixing roller has a cylindrical core having fine irregularities formed on its surface and a surface layer made of a resin. The surface of the cylindrical core has a greater elastic modulus than that of the surface layer.

  • Patent number: 5485260
Abstract: A fixing device for fixing the toner on the recording medium comprising a pair of fixing rollers which face each other and rotate in opposite direction to form a nipping and fusing section for toner fixing, with at least one of the rollers internally provided with a heating element, and a recording medium guiding device for changing the length of contact area of the recording medium to the fixing roller with heating element in accordance with the recording medium thickness, which is provided at the downstream side extending from the nipping and fusing section. This allows the device to be reduced in size and the fixing strength to be increased independent of the recording medium thickness.

  • Patent number: 5459562
Abstract: A development process and a fixing process are carried out on a front side of a recording paper. The paper recorded on the first side is transported toward a returning transportation device. The development process and the fixing process are then carried out on a back side of the paper. A nozzle for blowing out an air flow, an inverter roll for inverting the paper and the returning transportation device are arranged between the fixing station and a reversal station. The paper is deformed by the local cooling due to the air for peeling by the nozzle, the inverter roll and the returning transportation device. The portions (working regions) which receive the local cooling are arranged such that at most two of the working regions occur at any point of the recording medium paper. The inferiority of the local images in the defects in transfer and the local lowering degree in the density of the images are decreased.

  • Patent number: 5253025
Abstract: An apparatus fixes a toner image formed on a recording medium and has a fixing roller which is rotated. The fixing roller is heated and the toner image is fixed on the recording medium being in pressed contact with said fixing roller. Offset toner particles formed on the fixing roller are decomposed into particles being too small to be perceived as a picture by an offset toner decomposing device before such large particles to be perceived as a picture are formed, and the small offset toner particles are stuck onto and removed by the recording medium. Preferably, the offset toner decomposing device is a brush roller which is rotated relative to the rotation of the fixing roller such that the brush roller and the fixing roller have equal peripheral speeds. The amount of offset toner being formed is decreased by reducing the creation of offset toner particles on the fixing roller by decreasing a torque fluctuation of a drive motor of the fixing roller.

  • Patent number: 5023464
Abstract: In a heat roll consisting of a mandrel and a surface layer, this invention comprises a fixing apparatus and a recording apparatus, wherein a thickness of the surface layer is formed not exceeding the thickness determined by a square root of the product of a heat diffusion rate of the surface material and a nip time required for a form to pass a nip zone, and a thickness of the mandrel is formed not less than the thickness determined by a square root of the product of a heat diffusion rate of the mandrel material and a one rotational period of the mandrel. Since the surface layer and the mandrel are so specified for the thickness as mentioned, a quantity of heat flowing from the mandrel into the surface layer multiplies, and thus a high fixing strength is obtainable. The fixing apparatus and the recording apparatus are provided further with a cleaning device high in cleaning capacity.

  • Patent number: 4992923
Abstract: Disclosed is an electrical power supply for use, for example, for a flash fusing device in an electrophotographic recording apparatus, in which a DC high voltage is generated from a low voltage of an AC power supply so that the high voltage DC energy is momentarily consumed or discharged. The electrical power supply is configured in a manner so that, in order to make unnecessary a charging capacitor and a current limiting resistor for preventing rectifier elements from being damaged, at least some of the rectifier elements are constituted by rectifying control elements such as thyristors or transistors and a control signal is given to those rectifying control elements so as to make the rectifying control elements be in an isolated state. By use of such a configuration, the electrical power supply can be reduced in size as well as in power loss. The effect can be fully exhibited not only in a fusing apparatus employing the electrical power supply but in a recording apparatus employing such a fusing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4959693
Abstract: An aerial recording sheet carrier is provided downstream of a fixing station. The aerial recording sheet carrier has one pair of pressure chambers with wall surfaces facing each other and in parallel. Air jets are arranged on opposite wall surfaces of the pressure chambers. A recording sheet and a toner image from the fixing station are carried by an air stream and cooled down. The toner image on the recording sheet, which is in fusion, is prevented from coming into contact with any parts, such as a recording sheet carrying passage. Thus a stain on parts due to contact with the toner image can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 4862828
Abstract: Non-contact type developing device and method for electrophotographic recording system. The pitch of magnetic poles on a developing sleeve carrying a developer is selected to fall within a predetermined range or is varied such that the pitch increases as the circumferential distance from the point where the gap between the developer carrier member and a photosensitive member is minimum. The bias voltage applied to the developing sleeve is controlled in accordance with a change in the size of the gap between the surface of the photosensitive member and the layer of the developer on the developer carrying member. Alternatively, the bias voltage is applied throughout a period in which the charged region on the photosensitive member is opposed by the developing sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4821052
Abstract: A flash lamp apparatus for reducing occurrence of spots on a recording paper wherein an overlapping portion formed between two adjacent fusing areas of the recording paper receives a first flash and a second flash from a flash lamp so as to heat and fuse a toner on the recording paper. The overlapping portion is controlled so as to reduce occurrence of spots on the recording paper by reducing an area of the overlapping portion on a recording paper. Such reduction in the overlapping portion may be obtained by controlling a frequency of the flash or controlling a feeding velocity of the recording paper. Alternatively, the fusing energy of the overlapping portion may be reduced by changing alternately the radiating energy.

  • Patent number: 4782362
Abstract: The timing signal generated by the paper sending-out roller or the paper detector outputs a signal with synchronously the paper sending-out cycle. The flash lamp photoflashes with synchronously the output signal. The photoflash is generated in accordance with length of carrying direction of the paper. The paper sending-out roller sends out one of a plurality of the papers in accordance with a predetermined timing signal, and the flash lamp photoflashes at a predetermined number of times and stops the flashlight at a predetermined time in accordance with the predetermined timing signal as an index. The paper detector is installed at a position close to the paper carrying apparatus line from the flash fusing apparatus, and a delay circuit is provided so as to delay the detection output of the paper detector with a predetermined time. No photoflash irradiates the gap between a precede paper and a next paper at the continue printing the a plurality of cut sheets.
