Patent number: 8570302Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to allow a specified function to be readily selected in a mobile telephone or the like without performing a complicated operation. A liquid crystal (30) is sandwiched between a TFT substrate (10) and a color filter substrate (20). A photosensor TFT (130) for selecting the function is disposed on the periphery of an effective screen of the TFT substrate (10). A window (24) is provided in a portion of the color filter substrate corresponding to the photosensor TFT (130), and the outside light is blocked as a result of the user touching a finger to the window. A signal from the photosensor is used for selecting the function. A correction sensor TFT (133) is disposed adjacent to the photosensor TFT (130), to thereby eliminating noise caused by the temperature distribution, stray light, or the like, and erroneous operation of the photosensoris prevented.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2008Date of Patent: October 29, 2013Assignees: Hitachi Displays, Ltd., Panasonic Liquid Crystal Display Co., Ltd.Inventors: Teruaki Saito, Hideo Sato, Shigeyuki Nishitani

Publication number: 20090315857Abstract: A present display device with a touch panel includes: four detection circuits each of which is provided in one of the four corners of the transparent conductive film; and a coordinate position arithmetic circuit to which voltages detected by the four detection circuits are input. The detection circuits each include: a detection switch which supplies the position detection voltage to the corner of the transparent conductive film; and an integration circuit which integrates a current that flows in the corner of the transparent conductive film where its own detection circuit is provided after the detection switch is switched off. Based on voltages integrated by the four integration circuits, the coordinate position arithmetic circuit calculates which point on the transparent conductive film has been touched with one of a finger of an observer and a pen held by the observer.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 17, 2009Publication date: December 24, 2009Inventors: Shigeyuki NISHITANI, Hideo SATO, Teruaki SAITO

Publication number: 20080084366Abstract: A photosensor for selecting a specific function is arranged around an effective screen. A window is formed in a portion of a display substrate corresponding to the photosensor. When a user touches the window with his/her finger, an external light is interrupted and a signal is generated, and the signal is used as a signal for selecting the specific function. The photosensor and peripheral circuits are formed using a process substantially equal to, a process for forming a TFT of a pixel portion and hence, the increase of a cost can be suppressed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2007Publication date: April 10, 2008Inventors: Teruaki Saito, Hideo Sato, Shigeyuki Nishitani
