  • Patent number: 5335938
Abstract: An insert plate is embedded in an air bag cover, and is provided with an insert supporting portion, a pair of insert expanding portions and a coupling portion for coupling the insert expanding portions. Notches are provided in the insert supporting portion on both sides of the coupling portion. Terminals of a H-shaped rupture portion are positioned on inclined surfaces of the insert supporting portion. Accordingly, when the air bag cover expands due to a vehicle decelerating rapidly, a rupture is generated along the inclined surfaces, and an expansion occurs with a position offset by the notches as an expansion center line. Therefore, the air bag cover can be ruptured along a predetermined rupture line, and expand to the maximum.

  • Patent number: 5328204
Abstract: An acceleration sensor. An inertial mass moves inertially when a vehicle suddenly accelerates. A longitudinal direction portion of a trigger lever abuts a portion of a peripheral surface of the inertial mass at a side in a direction of inertial movement thereof. The trigger lever is pushed by the peripheral surface due to inertial movement of the inertial mass, and is rotated around a fulcrum from a first position to a second position. The trigger lever is provided with a trigger means which is located at a position separated by a predetermined distance from the fulcrum and at a position which is different from a position at which the trigger lever abuts the inertial mass. An ignition pin is movable from a non-actuating position at which an occupant protection device is not actuated to an actuating position at which the ignition pin actuates the occupant protection device. The ignition pin has an engaging member.

  • Patent number: 5092628
Abstract: An air bag apparatus is disclosed having a locking device which is adapted to prevent the inflation of a bag accommodated in an air bag body before the air bag body is mounted on a chassis, the bag being adapted to be inflated in front of a seat occupant when a predetermined acceleration has acted on the air bag body. This locking device is arranged such that an actuating member is driven by an operator's operation after mounting the air bag body on the chassis to release the locking device, thereby canceling a locked state and making the air bag body operable.

  • Patent number: 5069479
Abstract: An air bag device is equipped with a restricting member for preventing an air bag accommodated in an air bag main body from being inflated erroneously upon impact before the air bag main body is attached to a body of a vehicle inclusive of a steering wheel. This restricting member, only when a deactivating member for deactivating the operation of an acceleration sensor is in operation, allows the air bag main body to approach a designated attaching area of the body of a vehicle. After the air bag main body is secured, the operation of the deactivating member is released to the put the acceleration sensor in an operation activating condition.

  • Patent number: 4772045
Abstract: A gas bag apparatus for a vehicle is arranged such that, when an emergency situation of the vehicle occurs, a gas bag body is inflated to absorb the impact applied to the body of an occupant of the vehicle. A soft skin is secured at the peripheral portion thereof to the outer side of the gas body in such a manner that the central portion of the soft skin is movable relative to the outer side of the gas bag body. Accordingly, the occupant's body is prevented from directly rubbing against the outer side of the gas bag body when an emergency situation of the vehicle occurs.

  • Patent number: 4718696
Abstract: A retaining structure for a webbing retained by a seat of a vehicle enables the tension which acts on the webbing to be transmitted to the body of the vehicle so as to be carried thereby. The tension acting on the webbing is carried by the seat and also by a retaining flexible continuous member which is retained by the vehicle body and to which the webbing tension is transmitted. Accordingly, the tension which acts on the webbing when an emergency situation of the vehicle occurs can reliably be transmitted to the vehicle body so as to be carried thereby.

  • Patent number: 4667981
Abstract: A webbing lock apparatus includes a fixed lock member and a movable lock member which is disposed such as to face the fixed lock member. The movable lock member is moved while being guided by a guide in a direction diagonally crossing the webbing wind-off direction so that a webbing is clamped between the same and the fixed lock member. A high degree of acceleration at the time of a vehicular emergency which is detected by an acceleration sensing means is transmitted to the movable lock member through a movable arm, whereby the webbing is clamped between the fixed and movable lock members. It is, accordingly, possible to effect a reliable webbing lock operation by the use of a small-sized acceleration sensing means.

  • Patent number: 4645234
Abstract: A webbing guide apparatus is arranged such that an intermediate portion of a shoulder webbing is guided by a guide means provided on a head rest for the purpose of allowing an occupant who is to seat himself or is seated in the back seat of a two-door vehicle to smoothly enter or leave the vehicle. When the seat back rest is inclined toward the front of the vehicle, the angle of pivoting of the guide means with respect to the head rest is properly limited such that the intermediate portion of the webbing is moved upwardly forward of the vehicle in response to the forwardly inclining movement of the seat back rest, thereby enlarging the space where the occupant of the back seat of the vehicle moves when entering or leaving the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4637630
Abstract: A webbing tension adjusting apparatus is arranged such that, when the occupant leaves the vehicle, a motor is rotated forwardly, and a takeup shaft for winding up an occupant restraining webbing thereon is thereby rotated in the webbing wind-off direction through a one-way clutch which is interposed between the motor and the webbing takeup shaft. Accordingly, the webbing is quickly wound off when the occupant leaves the vehicle, so that the webbing tension is reduced. Thus, it is possible to decrease the amount of friction or rubbing which occurs between the sliding webbing and the clothes of the occupant.

  • Patent number: 4623192
Abstract: A seat which is employed in combination with a seatbelt system for a vehicle designed to protect an occupant when an emergency situation of the vehicle occurs. When the tension acting on the seatbelt exceeds a predetermined value, a movable member connected to a seatbelt anchor member causes a push-up member to move upwards within a seat cushion. As a result, the push-up member forms a protuberance at the front part of the seat cushion, whereby the movement of the occupant's waist toward the front end of the vehicle is limited.

  • Patent number: 4610480
Abstract: The safety seat belt system comprises an emergency-locking type seat belt retractor (ELR) mounted within a tiltable backrest of a reclining seat. The ELR is mounted rotatably on a support shaft horizontally extending within the backrest and rigidly secured to the backrest frame in such a manner that the ELR is suspended vertically from the support shaft regardless of any change in the angle of the backrest. The ELR is locked to the support shaft by a releasable locking mechanism operated by an actuating mechanism which is preferably linked to the reclining adjustment lever of the backrest reclining mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4556177
Abstract: A lock-type seat belt retractor including a ratchet mechanism, an inertia member which senses shock to the automobile, and a transmitting mechanism which transmits a movement of the inertia member to a pawl of the ratchet mechanism. The inertia member senses the shock by its relative motion to the transmitting mechanism. The transmitting mechanism includes a rod which moves in response to movement of the inertia member and pushes up a lever to raise the pawl. When the pawl engages with a tooth of a ratchet wheel, the seat belt is locked. The transmitting mechanism further includes a member which supports the rod and the inertia member. The support member swings relative to the automobile body so that this retractor can be locked reliably regardless of its angular position.
