An index search is performed to identify the contents of the user command. The identified user command is then used to determine which specialized server should respond to the user command. The specialized server contains a collection of action patterns for an agent to use in responding to a user command. An agent supports a user in searching for information and/or navigating to the desired information through friendly conversation with that user. The entrance server is configured as a portal site and a specialized server is provided for each specialized field.

A front processor functions at a level of interface with a user. A middle processor processes and stores information to be supplied to the user via the front processor. The front processor stores object data which describe a virtual three-dimensional space containing a plurality of virtual rooms, which respectively correspond to different concepts, and a specialized agent which performs a service related to the concept corresponding to each of the rooms. When the service is requested by the user, the specialized agent asks the middle processor about information necessary for providing the service.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of converting two-dimensional images into three-dimensional images. In the present invention, a first image which forms the basis and a second image obtained by horizontally shifting the first image are produced from the original two-dimensional image. One of the first image and the second image is taken as a left eye image, and the other image is taken as a right eye image. If the left eye image and the right eye image obtained are displayed on a display almost simultaneously, and the left eye image and the right eye image displayed are viewed with the left eye and the right eye of a viewer, therefore, the original two-dimensional image is recognized as an image having a three-dimensional effect by the viewer even when it is a still image.

Abstract: An information retrieval apparatus that enables users to search information with regionality is provided. When a user inputs search terms for searching, a place-name is extracted from the search terms. Furthermore, the apparatus extracts another place-name of a region that is judged to be within a reachable area from the region indicated by the extracted place-name. Regional information is searched using the extracted place-name and the selected place-name. The user may search life-related information with regionality at his/her residence. The user registers the items of the life-related information beforehand. When the user moves to a new address, the apparatus searches life-related information of the new address based on the registered items and presents the updated information to the user.

The cursor displayed on the display device is remotely controlled by a remote control transmitter. The remote control transmitter is provided with, for example, a light emitting element emitting light rays having a particular wavelength, for example, infrared rays. The position of the remote control transmitter is detected by an imaging device including a CCD. The position of the cursor on a display screen of the display device is controlled on the basis of the detected position of the remote control transmitter.
