  • Patent number: 6172275
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for pyrolytically decomposing waste plastic which may contain halogen-containing polymer such as PVC. The plastic is heated at 270° to 350° C., whereby a plasticizer contained in the plastic material is decomposed and vaporized, and a chlorine-containing polymer is dechlorinated to produce hydrogen chloride. The vaporized decomposition matter and the hydrogen chloride are removed from the plastic, and the vaporized decomposition matter is separated from the hydrogen chloride. Then isolated plastic is further heated to 450° C. or higher to produce a pyrolysis product. Alternatively, the former heating step is divided into two steps of: heating at a temperature lower than 270° C., whereby a plasticizer is decomposed; and heating to 270° to 350° C., whereby a chlorine-containing polymer contained in the plastic material is dechlorinated. Accordingly, the decomposition matter of plasticizer and hydrogen chloride are separately removed from the plastic.

  • Patent number: 5608136
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and an apparatus for pyrolytically decomposing waste plastic, e.g. PVC, to recover light fuel oil. The invention enables to prevent the product from contamination by halogen compounds. The plastic is first thermally decomposed in an atmosphere of a normal or reduced pressure to produce a primary decomposition product in the form of gas and a decomposition residue. The primary decomposition product is cooled at a first cooling temperature to separate the primary decomposition product into a relatively light fraction containing a desired light constituent and a relatively heavy fraction by condensation of the relatively heavy fraction, and the relatively heavy fraction is then thermally decomposed in an atmosphere pressurized at a predetermined pressure to produce a secondary decomposition product containing the desired light constituent in the form of gas.

  • Patent number: 5393394
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and an apparatus for decomposing organic halogen-containing compounds by using ultraviolet radiation. In the decomposition method, the organic halogen-containing compound is dissolved in a solvent to form a liquid, and the liquid is exposed to ultraviolet radiation in the substantial absence of alkaline material. Then, the liquid is treated with an alkaline material. The decomposition apparatus for the organic halogen-containing compound comprises: preparation means for preparing a liquid containing the organic halogen-containing compound and a solvent in which the organic halogen-containing compound can be dissolved; exposure means for exposing the liquid to light radiation of an effective wavelength for initiating decomposition of the organic halogen-containing compound in the substantial absence of an alkaline material; and treatment means for treating the liquid with an alkaline material.

  • Patent number: 5000004
Abstract: A gas trubine combustor includes a main body with a combustion portion into which mixture of fuel and air is supplied. The gas mixture is burned through a catalytic reaction at a catalyst body arranged in the main body. The gas mixture passed through the catalyst body is introduced into a gas phase combustion portion provided in the main body. Between the catalyst body and the gas phase combustion portion is arranged a dividing unit which has a plurality of branch passages. The gas mixture passed through the catalyst body is divided by the dividing unit into a plurality of gas streams flowing through the branch passages. Each of the gas streams is mixed with fuel supplied from a fuel supply tube.

  • Patent number: 4731989
Abstract: A nitrogen oxides decreasing combustion method which comprises; a first step of mixing a fuel and air with each other; a second step of bringing the mixture obtained in the first step, into contact with a packed catalyst so as to cause a portion of the mixture to burn only through a catalytic reaction; and a third step of adding a fresh supply of the fuel to a stream obtained from the second step to form a mixed gas and causing the mixed gas to undergo non-catalytic thermal combustion; the temperature of said packed catalyst being lower than the ignition temperature of the mixture and the adiabatic flame temperature of said mixed gas being lower than a temperature at which the nitrogen oxides occur.
