  • Patent number: 5834087
Abstract: The present invention provides a tile carpet comprising a sealer layer of a novel hot-melt type composition low in fumability (fuming property) and superior in a sealing effect and backing layers of a composition low in fumability. The tile carpet has a structure in which a backing layer (A) of a composition comprising an amorphous polyolefin and a filler containing magnesium hydroxide; a glass or polyester non-woven fabric; a backing layer (B) of a compositon comprising an amorphous polyolefin and a filler containing magnesium hydroxide; a glass or polyester crossed fabric; and a carpet cloth having a sealer layer (C) of a composition comprising, an amorphous polyolefin and a filler, are laminated to one another successively in this order.

  • Patent number: 5552010
Abstract: As a method for producing a tile carpet having a a lining layer, there is provided a means for obtaining a tile carpet superior in the uniformity of thickness and adhesion of the lining layer and also superior in all of standing stability, shape and dimensional stability and durability, in high applicability of a sealing material in carpet cloth and a lining material and that in high production efficiency. The method of the present invention for producing such tile carpet comprises applying a heat-melted, amorphous olefin polymer composition (11) onto a travelling endless belt (3), then laminating onto this coating surface a carpet cloth (1) which has been sealed beforehand with an amorphous olefin polymer composition (7), to obtain an integral laminate, thereafter cooling the laminate forcibly using a cooling plate (14), separating the laminate from the endless belt (3) and cutting it into a tile shape.

  • Patent number: 4872930
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing carpet tiles having excellent dimensional stability which comprises the steps of:(a) allowing a reticulated fabric base having a small thermal coefficient of linear expansion to be contact with the whole surface of the back of a carpet base material,(b) applying a backing material prepared from a composition containing a thermoplastic material as the major component to the resulting composite material, and(c) optionally laminating a fabric backing onto the above backing material.

  • Patent number: 4443575
Abstract: A composition for backing a carpet, which contains (a) 5 to 65% by weight of an olefin-polar monomer copolymer having a polar monomer content of 5 to 40% by weight, (b) 1 to 50% by weight of a synthetic oil comprising one or more non-condensed tricyclic aromatic hydrocarbon compounds having a boiling point of 250.degree. C. or higher and a molecular weight of 258 to 482, and being liquid at room temperature, (c) 30 to 90% by weight of an inorganic filler, and, if necessary, up to 50% by weight of a solid low-molecular compound component. The composition is particularly useful for automobile carpets and carpet tiles. The composition provides flexibility during blending, a high flexibility, and, in particular, a superior performance at low temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4437918
Abstract: A method of making a carpet tile in which a carpet fed from a carpet feed section, a thermoplastic backing composition layer, and a secondary backing fabric fed from a secondary backing fabric feed section are laminated to form a carpet belt material, and the carpet belt material is cooled and cut to size. In the aforesaid method, the carpet is passed through a roll guider, and the secondary backing fabric is passed through a cloth guider, and, if required, through an expander roll. In the aforesaid methods, the secondary backing fabric is further preheated.

  • Patent number: 4347275
Abstract: Provided is a carpet tile produced by using as a backing material a mixture which contains a solvent deasphalted asphalt and a copolymer of an olefin and a polar monomer, or a mixture which contains an amorphous polyolefin in addition to the above components. After applying the mixture as a hot melt to the back of carpet material, the backed carpet material is cooled and then cut or punched to produce the carpet tile.
