    Abstract: Halogenated .alpha.-amino acids as new compounds are obtained by subjecting halogenated ethanes and an ester of acrylic acid or crotonic acid to addition reaction, adding sodium azide to the adducts, reducing the resultant mixtures with hydrogen and subsequently hydrolyzing the reduction products.
