  • Patent number: 6134371
Abstract: An optical fiber fixing member 11 including an optical fiber engaging portion 15 for positioning/engaging an optical fiber F. The optical fiber engaging portion 15 is provided with two inclined faces 12, for supporting a side wall of the optical fiber when the optical fiber F is engaged in the optical fiber engaging portion 15, and a bottom face 13 positioned between the inclined faces 12. The bottom face 13 is flat. Additionally, in a sectional face perpendicular to an optical axis of the optical fiber F supported by the inclined faces 12, in a boundary portion in which the bottom face 13 and the inclined faces 12 are connected, inclinations of the bottom face 13 and the inclined faces 12 are discontinuous. Therefore, when the optical fiber engaging portion 15 is observed while a light is radiated to the bottom face 13 from above or from below, the contrast between the bottom face 13 and the inclined face 12 by a reflected light or a transmitted light is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6105395
Abstract: In a method for molding glass products having a fine structure as of an optical fiber holder with a high size precision, a mold used for the molding has the fine structure in a size such that a size difference occurring when the glass product is cooled down to a room temperature where at the end of molding with a pressure a size of the fine structure of the mold for glass product and a size of a fine structure of the glass product formed by transfer of the fine structure of the mold are the same as one another is so adjusted that a size of the fine structure of the completed glass product falls within a permissive size precision range. The mold may has a size satisfying, as a size of a fine structure at a room temperature, a formula [1+(.alpha.g-.alpha.m).times..DELTA.T+.alpha.g'.times..DELTA.T'].times.Sg, wherein Sg denotes a size of a fine structure of thc glass product at the room temperature; .alpha.

  • Patent number: 6050110
Abstract: A manufacturing method for a glass product not having a rotatively symmetric body like an optical fiber fixing member but having a fine structure as of optical fiber engagement portions, to transfer the fine structure with a high precision without creating molding burrs, includes the steps of placing a glass material in a cavity defined by a lower mold, an upper mold, and a side mold, molding the glass material in the cavity with pressure into the glass product in so controlling that the glass material has a viscosity range of 10.sup.6.5 to 10.sup.9.

  • Patent number: 6032490
Abstract: In a grindstone for fabricating a mold which has optical fiber engagement portions of an optical fiber guide block used for aligning optical fibers, two main grinding surfaces are provided to form the optical fiber engagement portions contacted with the sides of the optical fibers and a tip end portion which is contiguous to the two main grinding surfaces and which has a contour contained within a predetermined area. The predetermined area has a triangle shape which is defined by two tangent lines along the two main grinding surfaces and a preselected line drawn between two points determined on the two main grinding surfaces. The two points are decided in accordance with a predetermined formula.

  • Patent number: 4158974
Abstract: There is disclosed an adjustable oil filter wrench including a bearing shoe formed with a cylindrically shaped bearing pad for complimentally fitting the circumference of an oil filter cartridge and turned back along its opposite sides to form upstanding parallel ears formed with a pair of aligned diametrically projecting adjustment slots which turn laterally at their outer extremities to angle radially inwardly for a short distance to form a small filter cartridge leg. A transversely extending pivot pin is slidably received at its opposite extremities in such slots and has one end of a handle connected therewith and normally projecting laterally in one direction therefrom. A flexible band is connected with such pivot pin and projects in the direction opposite the handle and loops about the bearing surface to cooperate therewith in forming a cartridge engaging loop and has its opposite extremity connected medially with the handle.
