  • Patent number: 6438563
Abstract: A management information database (MIB) of network manager (NM) 200 and network elements (NE) 220-22N each store management information and database identifiers that indicate the update history of the management information. Database information is updated each time NM 200 sets or manipulates management information of each of NE 220-22N, and includes the identifiers of the NM and NE, that are subject to manipulation as well as access time 401 that indicates the time operations were carried out. When the management information database within the NM is substituted (overwritten) by back-up data due to, for example, damage, the database information stored by each of the NM and the NE is compared upon subsequent access of the NE, and in the event of discrepancies, the management information stored in the NE is uploaded and the management information stored in the management information database of the NM is updated by that management information to synchronize the management information of the MIB and the NE.

  • Patent number: 6119158
Abstract: There is provided a method of making-up a multi-integrated agent system which can improve maintainability and operationability of network management. A network management system and a network element constitute the multi-integrated agent system. A management information data base of the network management system and a CPU board of the network element hold structural information including a NMS-ID indicative of information for identifying the network management system, time stamp information indicative of a time point at which the network management system connects to the network element and a unit ID indicative of information for identifying the network element. When the system is made-up, the network management system collects the structural information from the network element and compares it with the structural information of its own at a comparator unit and executes a proper makeup procedure in accordance with a result of comparison.

  • Patent number: 5961595
Abstract: A network management system comprising a manager, a resource manager for managing resources of a managed device by an inherent protocol, and an interface, directly managed by the manager, for sending the resource manager an operation request issued from the manager by the standard protocol after it has been converted into the operation request by the inherent protocol and sending the manager a reply message from the resource manager after it has been converted into the message by the standard protocol, the resource manager characterized in that an instance of the managed device is managed by the same unit as the managed object in the managed information base connected to the interface.

  • Patent number: 5903568
Abstract: A hierarchical manager-agent structure has upper and lower layers in an open system having OSI standard protocol specifications. The upper layer has an upper-layer manager, an upper-layer agent, and managed objects, and the lower layer has a lower-layer manager, a lower-layer agent. If an operation requested from an upper-layer manager and effected on a managed object in an upper layer by an upper-layer agent affects a managed object in a lower layer, or if an operation reported from a lower layer agent to a lower-layer manager affects a managed object in an upper layer, then corresponding managed-object instances between the upper and lower layers and their operations are converted by a managed-object correspondence information converter based on information stored in a managed-object correspondence information database. The managed-object correspondence information converter has a common interface with respect to both the upperlayer agent and the lower-layer manager.
