Abstract: This invention is directed to compounds of formula (I) which are novel C3- or C5-acyl sulfonamide, carboxamic acid or tetrazolyl analogs of the Zaragozic acids. These compounds inhibit the enzyme squalene synthase and are useful as cholesterol lowering agents.

Abstract: Novel 1,3-Diaryl cyclopentanes of the following general formula were prepared. ##STR1## These compounds were found to have potent and specific PAF (Platelet Activating Factor) antagonistic activities and as such useful in the treatment or amelioration of various diseases or disorders mediated by the PAF, for example, hypotension, inflammation, nephritis, stroke and other cardiovascular disorders, asthma, allergic and skin diseases, peptic or stomach ulcer, shock, lung edema, psoriasis, adult respiratory distress syndrome, pain including dental pain, and aggregation of platelets.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a specifically substituted tetrahydrofuran of the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.4 is an alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl or alkylsulfonyl containing group and at least one of the substituents at positions 3, 4 or 5 contains a heterocyclic, heteroaryl or substituted phenylthio moiety.

Abstract: Analogs of 2,5-Diaryl tetrahydrothiophenes which were substituted or unsubstituted on 3,4-positions were prepared.These compounds are found to be leukotriene inhibitors and potent and specific PAF (Platelet Activating Factor) antagonists. They are therefore useful in the treatment of various diseases or disorders mediated by the leukotriene and/or PAF, for example, inflammation, cardiovascular disorder, asthma, lung edema, adult respiratory distress syndrome, pain, and aggregation of platelets.

They are found to be effective inhibitors of platelet aggregation and are analgesic/anti-inflammatory agents with low ulcerogenic side effects.

Abstract: New 5-(2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolizin-5-oyl)-, 5-(2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-b]thiazol-5-oyl)-, 5-(2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-b]imidazol-5-oyl)-, and 5-(2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,1-b]oxazol-5-oyl)-pyrrole-2-alkanoic acid derivatives have been prepared. They are found to be effective inhibitors of platelet aggregation and are analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents with low ulcerogenic side effects.

Abstract: Substituted 5-(pyrrol-2-oyl)1,2-dihydropyrrolo[1,2-a]-pyrrole derivatives have been prepared via decarboxylation of the corresponding 1,7-dicarboxylate prepared from condensation of a dialkyl 1,2-dihydro-3H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrrole-1-7-dicarboxylate-7-carboxylic acid with an appropriately substituted 2-pyrroyl chloride, or conversely, an acid chloride of the former bicyclic compounds with a substituted pyrrole. The compounds are analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents of high activities but low ulcerogenic side effects.
