  • Patent number: 4574750
Abstract: A self-contained hydraulic lifter used in valve trains of internal combustion engines having a cylindrical body, a plunger arranged slidably therein, and a diaphragm arranged in the plunger. A metal ring is embedded in the upper portion of the diaphragm and the upper end of the metal ring is in contact with the stopper member fixed to the upper end of the plunger, thereby the sealability of the diaphragm being improved.

  • Patent number: 4535734
Abstract: A self-contained hydraulic lash adjuster having a cup-shaped body and a plunger slidably disposed therein is further provided with a flexible diaphragm secured within a reservoir chamber located in the plunger with one side of said diaphragm being exposed to the atmosphere and the other side being disposed in engagement with the oil supply sealed within the hydraulic lash adjuster. An oil passage is provided in the bottom of the plunger to communicate the reservoir chamber with a pressure chamber defined between the bottom of the plunger and the bottom of the body and a one-way check valve is provided to prevent the return flow of oil through the oil passage to the reservoir. A cup-shaped cover member having apertured side walls is located in the bottom of the plunger over the oil passage to prevent the diaphragm from blocking the oil passage upon deformation of the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 4457270
Abstract: An oil-containing hydraulic lifter for lash adjustment comprising relatively movable cylinder and plunger members defining a pressure chamber between their closed ends and a reservoir chamber within the plunger. Means are provided for rapid, one-way flow of the oil from the reservoir to the pressure chamber during outward movement of the plunger and for slow, one-way flow from the pressure to the reservoir chamber during inward movement of the plunger. A flexible, bag-shaped diaphragm extending into the reservoir chamber has its open, upper end sealed liquid tightly to the inner wall of the reservoir for sealing in the oil while expanding and collapsing with reciprocation of the plunger. The reservoir chamber has an increased diameter at that part where the diaphragm undergoes most of its expansion and collapse, thereby spacing the inner wall of the reservoir chamber from the diaphragm by a distance great enough to allow full expansion of the diaphragm in the expanding and collapsing operation thereof.

  • Patent number: 4202302
Abstract: An automatic choke in which the choke valve is urged by a spring and can be closed at a temperature lower than a set value and opened at a temperature higher than the set value by by a choke-return diaphragm. The diaphragm is actuated by intake vacuum in response to operation of a temperature-sensing valve, thereby eliminating an expensive bi-metal unit, or a manual control to close the choke valve at the time of start-up.

  • Patent number: 4162613
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifier for a four-stroke internal combustion engine has a plurality of cylinders consisting of cylinder groups, each of which has at least two cylinders, and the opening durations of the exhaust valves in any one group do not overlap. The exhaust passages of the cylinders of one of the cylinder groups are connected to the atmosphere via a common reed valve.

  • Patent number: 4119683
Abstract: A choke breaker system for a carburetor of an internal combustion engine, wherein a negative pressure-type choke control means of a carburetor of an internal combustion engine is directly coupled with a vacuum port of the carburetor, a vacuum switching valve being controllable in response to an engine temperature and a negative pressure check valve are arranged in the passage of negative pressure, and only the vacuum switching valve is to be connected in series when the temperature of the engine is below a certain level, while the vacuum switching valve and the check valve are to be both connected in series when the temperature of the engine is in excess of the certain level.

  • Patent number: 4086897
Abstract: Disclosed is an evaporated fuel feed control device for use in an internal combustion engine which comprises a charcoal canister and an evaporated fuel feed control valve. The feeding operation of the evaporated fuel is stopped only when the throttle valve is closed while the engine is operating at a high number of revolutions per minute, as in the case wherein the vehicle is decelerated while being driven at a high speed.

  • Patent number: 4059088
Abstract: A throttle positioner to ensure a predetermined minimum opening of a throttle valve when an engine is abruptly decelerated from a relatively high speed condition, said positioner being adapted to be switched over between operating and non-operating conditions by alternating the introduction of intake tube vacuum or atmospheric pressure into a diaphragm means, wherein a combination of a check valve and constricting means is provided to optionally determine the time constant of said switching over operation.
