Abstract: An image forming apparatus enables meaning, a translation and an explanation of an unknown term or a term for which a translation is unknown in a document to be obtained easily while the meaning, the translation and the explanation of the term are left as a record, so that the record is able to be used afterwards, thereby increasing convenience for the user. An image reading portion reads a document image; a character recognition portion performs character recognition of a term included in the read document image; an information obtaining portion gains access to a website for performing dictionary search so as to obtain, as term information, information of a search result of the dictionary search performed with the recognized term as a keyword; and the image forming portion forms an image with term information including the term information and the document image based on the obtained term information.

Abstract: The digital complex machine is constructed to split data corresponding to an image read by the image reading unit and output a split image separately from a read image. A split image is extracted by the partial image extracting unit on the basis of area designation by the user through the display-operation input unit or on the basis of an extraction result of feature information by the character recognizing unit or attribute information of a highlighted character. Data corresponding to a partial image is then generated by the print image generating unit and a partial image is printed on a sheet different from a read image by the print control unit. Otherwise, electronic data corresponding to a partial image is transmitted to another digital complex machine, a PC, a mobile phone, a server, a USB memory and the like.

The image processing apparatus, when the user authentication processing and inputting of the numeric key are performed, displays the operation screen, or a screen during image processing or after image processing as well as executes image processing by the image processing function.
