    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium comprising a nonmagnetic substrate, an intermediate layer provided on the nonmagnetic substrate, and a magnetic layer provided on the intermediate layer, wherein the magnetic layer contains, as a lubricant, (A) a fatty acid ester derived from a straight-chain or branched aliphatic alcohol having 3 to 7 carbon atoms and a straight-chain or branched fatty acid having 12 to 18 carbon atoms and (B) a fatty acid ester derived from a straight-chain or branched aliphatic alcohol having 8 to 14 carbon atoms and a straight-chain or branched fatty acid having 12 to 18 carbon atoms.
