The printing apparatus exclusively controls to stop driving of the heating unit if it is determined, based on a timing of detecting the print medium, that the print medium is at a print position, and to drive the heating unit if it is determined that the print medium is not at the print position.

    Abstract: With an ink jet head having for each color two parallel columns of nozzles arranged shifted by one-half the pitch, odd-numbered rasters and even-numbered rasters are printed by the two nozzle columns. The registration between the odd- and even-numbered rasters is secured during the printing to produce a high quality image. The ink ejection timing between the two raster groups is shifted by a predetermined interval to form adjustment patterns; the adjustment patterns are checked and, according to the check result, an adjustment value for the ink ejection timing between the two ink nozzle columns is entered, and the entered adjustment value is stored to be reflected on the actual printing operation. To facilitate the adjustment pattern check, the adjustment patterns have a dot distribution with a blue noise characteristic at a resolution at which the printing apparatus can print.

    Abstract: This invention relates to suppression of density unevenness caused by occurrence of ink-landing position shifts between print scans. In an embodiment, upon printing by scanning an inkjet printhead including printing elements, the following control is executed. That is, in order to form an image by print scans of the printhead on a single print area on a print medium, image data are acquired in correspondence with the respective scans. Also, the printing elements are partitioned into plural groups each including continuously arrayed printing elements, and the printing elements in each of the plural groups are time-divisionally driven based on drive sequences. Then, the drive sequences upon time-divisional driving in respective scans are set to include elements having the same drive timings and those having different drive timings.
