    Abstract: The present invention provides an agricultural and horticultural poison bait preparation obtained by incorporating a phthalamide derivative represented by general formula (I): (wherein R1 is a (C1-C6)alkyl group, a (C1-C6)alkylthio(C1-C6)alkyl group, a (C1-C6)alkylsulfinyl(C1-C6)alkyl group or a (C1-C6)alkylsulfonyl(C1-C6)alkyl group; each of Xs, which may be the same or different, is a halogen atom; n is 1 or 2; each of Ys, which may be the same or different, is a halogen atom, a (C1-C6)alkyl group, a halo(C1-C6)alkyl group or a halo(C1-C6)alkoxy group; and m is 2 or 3) as an active ingredient into an edible carrier (e.g. rice bran) attractive to insect pests. The agricultural and horticultural poison bait preparation of the present invention exhibits an excellent controlling effect on various insect pests.
