    Abstract: An ink jet printer having a mechanism to restore the nozzles by suction, thereby preventing the contamination of the nozzles of a printing head caused by waste ink and the mixing of color of ink. The ink jet printer is provided with an air releasing unit used to release a cap chamber equipped below the printing head by a cap of a capping unit. While ink droplets are discharged from the nozzles of the printing head, nozzle suction is performed and the cap chamber is released to the atmosphere through the use of the air releasing unit.
