Abstract: A remote control device controls the tuning of a broadcast receiver to a plurality of broadcast channels. The device has a configuring mode for creating a set of specific broadcast channels, and an operational mode for restricting selection from among the channels to the specific channels only. In the configuring mode the device controls the receiver to tune to a candidate channel for providing visual or auditory feedback about the content available from the candidate channel. This feedback facilitates deciding on whether or not to have the candidate channel belong to the set.

Abstract: The invention relates to an electronic system (1) comprising a remote control unit (10) and a controlled electronic device (20) which communicate via RF signals and an RF protocol. According to said protocol, data packets to be sent are first extended by a check sum, then extended by information for Forward Error Correction (FEC), and finally subjected to interleaving. The protocol allows a reliable RF communication even in future home environments with many RF interferences.

Abstract: The controller of a remote control device is modified to implement a test mode for testing the device's keyboard. During testing, specific ones of the keys are pressed in parallel in selected combinations. In response, the controller has the device generate an RC5 frame with information about functioning of keys pressed in parallel. This approach expedites the testing of remote controls.
