  • Patent number: 4120407
Abstract: This disclosure depicts shadow mask storage apparatus for use in the manufacture of television picture tubes and, specifically, for use with screening apparatus for screening picture tube faceplates. The apparatus has a mechanical memory for holding and cataloging shadow masks uniquely paired with the faceplates while the faceplates are being screened. The apparatus includes a plurality of mask holders which follow a cycle of being bottom loaded upward onto a stack of ascending mask holders, ratcheted upwards, rotated to a stack of descending mask holders, ratcheted downward, removed downward from the bottom of the stack of descending mask holders, rotated to a predetermined load/unload position, and rotated to the bottom of the stack of ascending mask holders.

  • Patent number: 4010525
Abstract: This disclosure depicts a method for use in the manufacture of a rectangular shadow mask-type color television picture tube including a flangeless, curved faceplate having a central axis, a convex front surface, and a concave rear surface with a phosphor screen deposited on a central portion thereof. The faceplate also has four shadow mask suspension studs extending from the rear surface of the faceplate, one in each peripheral corner region of the faceplate, and a shadow mask suspended from the studs. The tube also includes a funnel having a central axis and a neck attached to a rectangularly cross-sectioned flared portion, the flared portion having a seal land which mates with the concave rear surface of the faceplate. The seal land has deposited thereon a cement for sealing the faceplate to the funnel.

  • Patent number: 3943438
Abstract: For use in the manufacture of a cathode ray tube, an apparatus for testing a hermetic, glass-like frit seal interposed between the funnel and faceplate of an in-process cathode ray tube. The inside walls of the funnel have a conductive coating adapted to receive test voltage which is applied to an anode button located on the wall of the funnel. A discontinuity in the hermetic seal causes a high voltage breakdown in the seal when the test voltage is applied to the cathode ray tube. The apparatus comprises an elastomeric band which is capable of being stretched over the tube, conforming to the shape of the hermetic seal between the funnel and faceplate. It further includes means for supporting and locating the cathode ray tube in a position such that the tube may be tested.
