  • Patent number: 6235993
Abstract: A cable for a computed tomography system is described. In one embodiment, the cable electrically connects a detector module to a data acquisition system. The cable includes a conductor layer, an insulating layer and a shield layer having a thermal barrier. The thermal barrier reduces the amount of heat which is transferred from the data acquisition system to the detector module.

  • Patent number: 4815814
Abstract: A thin, relatively flat fiber optic cable assembly for laying under carpet. The cable assembly includes at least one resilient buffer tube and at least one optical conductor disposed inside the tube and being movable therein. The cable assembly includes a strength member having limited elasticity and a plastic jacket formed about the tube and the strength member with the jacket having a flat top surface and a flat bottom surface disposed parallel to the top surface. The tube and the strength member are positioned in the jacket midway between the top and bottom surfaces with the tube and the strength member being spaced and with their respective axes positioned in a plane which is generally parallel to the top and bottom surfaces so that a bend can be formed in the cable by removing a section of the jacket to expose the strength member and the buffer tube. A method of forming and defining the turn using the fiber optic cable assembly is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4695127
Abstract: A hybrid cable of substantially uniform cross-section for concurrently carrying an electrical signal and an optical signal. The cable includes a metallic conductor disposed at the center of the cable for carrying the electrical signal. The cable also includes a resilient buffer tube and an optical conductor for carrying the optical signal positioned inside the tube and having an outside diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the tube so that the optical conductor is movable inside the tube. A metallic shield surrounds the metallic conductor and the tube. The metallic conductor and the shield are coaxial. The cable also includes an electrically insulative resilient outer jacket so that the cable gives the appearance of and taps as a conventional coaxial cable but additionally can transmit an optical signal. A method of using the hybrid cable is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4549085
Abstract: Apparatus for processing multiple discrete signals utilizing a light propagating medium such as a fiber optic strand or the like includes a first electro-optical emitter-detector pair which is transparent to the wavelength of a signal of a second electro-optical emitter-detector pair. The signal of the second pair passes through at least a portion of the first emitter and first detector without substantial electro-optical conversion, and the two signals may propagate through the medium in the same or in opposite directions. Filters may be used to prevent interference between the two emitter-detector pairs, and lenses may be added to focus the signals, if desired.
