  • Patent number: 7058150
Abstract: A high-speed serial data transceiver includes multiple receivers and transmitters for receiving and transmitting multiple analog, serial data signals at multi-gigabit-per-second data rates. Each receiver includes a timing recovery system for tracking a phase and a frequency of the serial data signal associated with the receiver. The timing recovery system includes a phase interpolator responsive to phase control signals and a set of reference signals having different predetermined phases. The phase interpolator derives a sampling signal, having an interpolated phase, to sample the serial data signal. The timing recovery system in each receiver independently phase-aligns and frequency synchronizes the sampling signal to the serial data signal associated with the receiver. A receiver can include multiple paths for sampling a received, serial data signal in accordance with multiple time-staggered sampling signals, each having an interpolated phase.

  • Publication number: 20060114565
Abstract: An optical splitting device is intended to receive at an input two beams of different wavelengths. The device includes a polarizing beam splitter designed to selectively transmit part of the beam having one of the wavelengths towards a first output or a second output depending on the polarization of said beam. The device further includes a polarization variation system placed upstream of the polarizing beam splitter. By combining the polarization variation device with the polarizing beam splitter it is possible to adjust the distribution of the energy of a beam between the two outputs of the device. Such a splitting device is advantageously incorporated into an optical communication terminal.

  • Patent number: 7054559
Abstract: A system and method for modular multiplexing and amplification of optical signals in subwindows within an operating window of a fiber optic communication network. An operating window is divided into subwindows. Optical signals in each subwindow are optically amplified separately and in parallel by a plurality of optical line amplifiers. According to one embodiment, the operating window is divided into four subwindows within an erbium wavelength band. Each subwindow corresponds to a different group of channels having optical signals of a different wavelength. Modular wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) units multiplex/demultiplex optical signals in the set of multiple channels. A modular WDM unit includes a coarse WDM unit and four fine WDM units. The coarse WDM multiplexes optical signals by wavelength into subwindows separated by relatively large guard bands. A fine WDM unit further multiplexes optical signals within a subwindow by wavelength into individual channels with a fine separation.

  • Publication number: 20060108997
Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for analyzing photon emission data to discriminate between photons emitted by transistors and photons emitted by background sources. The analysis involves spatial and/or temporal correlation of photon emissions. After correlation, the analysis may further involve obtaining a likelihood that the correlated photons were emitted by a transistor. After correlation, the analysis may also further involve assigning a weight to individual photon emissions as a function of the correlation. The weight, in some instances, reflecting a likelihood that the photons were emitted by a transistor. The analysis may further involve automatically identifying transistors in a photon emission image.

  • Publication number: 20060112243
Abstract: Techniques are provided for locating data. Mapping information for blocks associated with a file is provided. It is determined that a copy service has copied source blocks to target blocks. It is determined whether the mapping information should be updated to refer to the target blocks. Then, updated mapping information is provided in response to determining that the mapping information should be updated to refer to the target blocks. Techniques are also provided for accessing a copy of data when a source of the data is inaccessible. It is determined that source blocks are unavailable. Target blocks that are a copy of the unavailable source blocks are located using data in a metadata store. Indicators pointing to the source blocks are switched to point to the target blocks. Mapping information is updated at one or more client computers to access the target blocks instead of the source blocks.

  • Publication number: 20060112044
Abstract: The method in accordance with the invention is a method according to which several decision criteria and a preference relation based on these criteria between the solutions of the problem are established. Modeling of the problem to be solved is established by obtaining solutions constructively via a tree search process. A tree search strategy has been established for each criterion. The strategies are alternated so as to find solutions of increasing quality; the strategies are chosen dynamically as a function of the last solution found. The alternation of strategies continues until a stopping condition is satisfied. The last solution found before the satisfaction of the stopping condition is exhibited as the solution to the problem set.
