  • Patent number: 7014530
Abstract: A slider is described with a resistive electro-lapping guide (ELG), which is aligned with a structure in the write head such as the throat height or trailing shield thickness and extends from the lapping region through the ABS and is connected to pads on the surface of the slider. In a second embodiment the ELG is disposed entirely in the section of the slider which will be removed by lapping. Another embodiment of the invention is a system for single slider lapping which simultaneously monitors the resistance of the read sensor or a read head ELG and at least one ELG that is aligned with a structure in the write head. A controller uses the resistance information to implement an algorithm which decides when lapping should be terminated.

  • Patent number: 7014768
Abstract: A process for removal and recovery of nutrients and recycling of water from digested manure or other organic wastes. A first step involves separating waste from an anaerobic digester into digested liquids, digested solids, and biogas. A second step involves precipitating solids from the digested liquids. A third step involves stripping ammonia from the digested liquids. A fourth step involves injecting an exhaust stream of carbon dioxide drawn from the co-generator into the digested liquids to reduce the pH and raise the temperature of the digested liquid. A fifth step involves recycling the digested liquids back to the anaerobic digester for use in diluting in coming solid wastes. A sixth step involves passing the excess ammonia stripped from the digested liquid through the digested solids to recover nitrogen through aborption with the resultant digested solids being usable as a biofertilizer with a high nitrogen content. A seventh step involves capturing the biogas for use in a co-generation system.

  • Patent number: 7016449
Abstract: A high-speed serial data transceiver includes multiple receivers and transmitters for receiving and transmitting multiple analog, serial data signals at multi-gigabit-per-second data rates. Each receiver includes a timing recovery system for tracking a phase and a frequency of the serial data signal associated with the receiver. The timing recovery system includes a phase interpolator responsive to phase control signals and a set of reference signals having different predetermined phases. The phase interpolator derives a sampling signal, having an interpolated phase, to sample the serial data signal. The timing recovery system in each receiver independently phase-aligns and frequency synchronizes the sampling signal to the serial data signal associated with the receiver. A receiver can include multiple paths for sampling a received, serial data signal in accordance with multiple time-staggered sampling signals, each having an interpolated phase.

  • Publication number: 20060056452
Abstract: In a network comprising an optical link transporting packet streams consisting of successive optical packets separated by voids, the station comprises a transmission device (13) coupled to the link at an insertion point in order to inject optical packets into the link. At a detection point on the link, upstream of the insertion point, a detection device (11) observes the packet streams transported to this detection point. As a function of this observation each packet awaiting transmission and transmitted by the transmission device (13) causes the formation at the insertion point of a downstream packet stream containing the transmitted packet interposed between first and second packets delimiting a void of the upstream stream. The detection device (11) forms a transmission control signal (ACK) such that in the event of transmission as a function of this control signal, any transmitted packet is attached to at least one of the first and second packets.

  • Publication number: 20060056724
Abstract: A non-iterative 3D processing method and system is disclosed for generic noise reduction. The 3D noise reducer is based on a simple conversion of the five types of noise to equivalent additive noise of varying statistics. The proposed technique comprises also an efficient temporal filtering technique which combines Minimization of Output Noise Variance (MNV) and Embedded Motion Estimation (EME). The proposed temporal filtering technique may be furthermore combined with classical motion estimation and motion compensation for more efficient noise reducer. The proposed technique comprises also a spatial noise reducer which combines Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) with robust and effective shape adaptive windowing (SAW) is utilized for smoothing random noise in the whole image, particularly for edge regions. Another modification to MMSE is also introduced for handling banding effect for eventual excessive filtering in slowly varying regions.

  • Publication number: 20060058965
Abstract: A method having application notably to the development of petroleum for fast generation of a geostatistical reservoir model on flexible grid, representative of a porous heterogeneous medium. A flexible grid best discretizing the medium is first generated. A regular Cartesian grid whose cell size, in a given direction, is greater than or equal to the largest size of the cell of the flexible grid in the same direction is then generated. On this Cartesian grid, at least one realization of petrophysical quantities characteristic of the heterogeneous medium is simulated from a geostatistical simulator. Then, this realization is resampled with a smaller discretization interval in order to know the petrophysical value associated with the realization at any point of the medium. Finally, the values of the simulated petrophysical properties are assigned to the center of the cells of the flexible grid.

  • Publication number: 20060056498
Abstract: A first serial transceiver has a reference clock, a first transmitter, and a first receiver. The first receiver includes (i) a phase detector, and (ii) a phase rotator. The phase rotator is driven by the reference clock. A first multiplexer is coupled to the first receiver. The first multiplexer receives the phase detector output and a control signal. When the first serial transceiver is in a test configuration, the first multiplexer passes the control signal to the phase rotator, thereby varying the frequency of the phase rotator output. A second multiplexer is coupled to the first transmitter. The second multiplexer receives a reference clock signal and the phase rotator output. When the first serial transceiver is in a test configuration, the second multiplexer passes the phase rotator output to the first transmitter. The first transmitter thereby transmits a serial data stream that varies in frequency from said reference clock.

  • Publication number: 20060059035
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for giving users of various handheld devices access to mobile sales software online. The functionality accessed by users is provided by individual development components (DCs). Use of individual development components allows users to turn off certain components and also customize components without impacting other aspects of the software. Thus, software is tailored to a particular customer and is efficiently presented for that customer's use. This may be particularly useful for handheld devices because of the limited capability to display information and also the costs of downloading information to the handheld device. The user interface layer is on top of these functional components and can be rendered online allowing customized access to various handheld devices. Access to customer relationship management (CRM) applications and reports from the field may be extremely useful.
