  • Publication number: 20170007139
Abstract: Tools and techniques for the rapid, continuous, invasive and/or noninvasive measurement, estimation, and/or prediction of a patient's intracranial pressure. In an aspect, some tools and techniques can predict the onset of conditions such as herniation and/or can recommend (and, in some cases, administer) a therapeutic treatment for the patient's condition. In another aspect, some techniques employ high speed software technology that enables active, long term learning from extremely large, continually changing datasets. In some cases, this technology utilizes feature extraction, state-of-the-art machine learning and/or statistical methods to autonomously build and apply relevant models in real-time.

  • Publication number: 20140192166
Abstract: Optical systems utilize waveplates to simultaneously encode information for increasing image depth of field and for providing a depth map of the imaged object or sample. These waveplates are configured to result in a focus-invariant point spread function in one focal region, and to result in point spread functions that vary as a function of range within the imaged object in a different focal region. For example, a basic compound microscope might have a specially shaped waveplate inserted at the back aperture plane of the microscope objective to manipulate the phase of the wavefront. An image formed on one side of the plane of best focus is focus invariant, and is brought into focus by a restoring algorithm. An image formed on the other side of the plane of best focus captures point spread functions comprising rings that vary with depth within the imaged object.

  • Publication number: 20130252178
Abstract: Systems and methods for liquid deposition photolithography are described. In particular, some embodiments relate to systems and methods for using photolithography to control the 2D structure of a thin layer of material (e.g., photopolymer) using various masks, projection optics and materials. In one or more embodiments, this thin layer can be manipulated by micro-fluidic techniques such that it can be formed, patterned and post-processed in a liquid environment, vastly simplifying the creation of multi-layer structures. Multiple layers are rapidly built up to create thick structures of possibly multiple materials that are currently challenging to fabricate by existing methods.

  • Publication number: 20130197189
Abstract: A method has been developed for the formation of multivalent cyclic peptides. This procedure exploits on-resin peptide cyclization using a photoinitiated thiol-ene click reaction and subsequent clustering using thiol-yne photochemistry. Both reactions utilize the sulfhydrl group on natural cysteine amino acids to participate in the thiol-mediated reactions.

  • Publication number: 20130144384
Abstract: A surgical method for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction includes creating a bone tunnel in a head of a femur of a patient. A connective tissue is inserted into the bone tunnel. A shape memory polymer plug is inserted into the bone tunnel. The plug has a first configuration for insertion and a second configuration for affixation that has a radially expanded dimension that presses the connective tissue against a side wall of the bone tunnel to affix the connective tissue in the bone tunnel. The plug changes from the first configuration to the second configuration in response to an activation temperature equal to or greater than a temperature of the femur.

  • Publication number: 20130123381
Abstract: The invention includes a new photopolymerizable resin system for dental restorative materials. The resin system utilizes a thiol-ene component as the reactive diluent in dimethacrylate systems. The ternary resin system comprises a thiol monomer, an ene monomer and a dimethacrylate monomer. The system of the invention has enhanced overall functional group conversion, improved polymer mechanical properties, and reduced shrinkage stress of the ternary system when compared to either traditional dimethacrylate or thiol-ene resin systems.
