Abstract: The invention relates to a soil cover, a method for preventing weed growth by using a soil cover, the use of potato steam peels and the use of a cork fraction of potato steam peels for preventing weed growth. A soil cover according to the invention comprises potato steam peels or a part, derivative or analogue thereof. In a different embodiment, a soil cover according to the invention comprises a cork fraction of potato steam peels or a part, derivative or analogue thereof.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing insulating and/or fire-resistant material, wherein the potato steam peels are subjected to a treatment for recovering a cork fraction, at least a non-calorific part, from those peels, while the insulating and/or fire resistant material is manufactured at least from the recovered cork fraction and a binding agent. The invention further provides insulating and/or fire-resistant material containing at least a cork fraction recovered from potato steam peels. Further, the invention provides a construction element, provided with such insulating and/or fire-resistant material.

Abstract: The invention relates to a preparation having an improved taste, as well as to the use of said preparation for treatment of mineral deficiency. In accordance with the invention, it has been found possible to effectively mask the bad taste of even such notorious minerals as iron. As a result, patient compliance may be increased significantly by prescription of a preparation according to the invention, thereby increasing effective uptake of the deficient mineral.

Abstract: Heavy metals can be effectively complexed with a derivative of a fructan, which derivative contains complexing groups chosen from --X--CY--ZM, --X--CY--ZM, --X--CY--S--S--CY--X--Q, --PY'(--Z'M).sub.2, --SO.sub.3 M and --NR--CH.sub.2 --COOM, where M is a metal or hydrogen, Q denotes the residue of an alcohol or polyol, R is hydrogen or carboxymethyl and X, Y, Y', Z and Z', independently of one another, are O, S or NH and at least one of X, Y and Z is S, with a degree of substitution of 0.1-2.5. The complexing groups are in particular xanthate, xanthide or dithiocarbamate groups.
