  • Patent number: 4523455
Abstract: The invention concerns a press for the testing by means of internal pressure of tubes provided with threaded ends, in which end pieces screwed in a pressure medium-tight manner on the tube ends are inserted into the sealing heads of the press. The end pieces are cap-like and have radially arranged connecting boreholes so that the pressure medium feed is radial in contrast to the axial pressure medium feed of the familiar constructions. No appreciable axial forces thus arise between the tubes and the test heads. In addition, the outer end of the cap-like end pieces facing away from the tube serves for the coupling of a shaft, which can displace the tube with the end piece axially and act upon it with a torque. Furthermore, the sealing head is readily detachable in a like manner in a retaining head and is inserted pressure medium-tight to the outside, just as the end pieces in the sealing heads.

  • Patent number: 4480515
Abstract: Apparatus for laterally ejecting elongate articles, such as tube lengths, from a channel defined by a roller bed, the channel extending beyond a flying saw for severing continuous lengths into said elongate articles, said apparatus being operated by a signal generator fitted to the flying saw so that an ejection operation is initiated by an optional delay after completion of a severing operation. Operation is not impaired in the event of the tube being fractured during the rolling operation, since the ejection operation takes place in timed relation to the severing operation and does not depend on detection of the presence or absence of tube ends.

  • Patent number: 4377941
Abstract: A rolling mill is provided in which the stands can be angularly displaced about the longitudinal axis of the work material so that the drive shaft slopes upwardly or downwardly from the associated output spindle of the drive transmission. This enables rolls of ideal diameter (D.sub.i) larger or smaller by up to 20 mm than the rated ideal diameter for that stand location to be used. A flexible coupling compensates for the angular misalignment of up to 2.degree. between the drive shaft and the output spindle.

  • Patent number: 4326623
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for feeding, clamping and removing bar or tube goods in tube test presses which have a bearing surface consisting of several supporting crossbeams spaced parallel to each other, and at least two disk-like driven rotors having at least one hook-like peripheral projection spaced on at least one axis of rotation, where each axis of rotation runs crosswise to the crossbeams under their bearing surfaces, such that only hook-like peripheral extensions of the rotors project above the bearing surfaces for transporting and clamping the goods, the improvement comprising at least one tenterhook pivotable adjacent the bearing surface between a first position below the bearing surface and a second position above the bearing surface of the crossbeam and parallel to the rotor adjacent each rotor, and which, pivoted to said second position above the bearing surface during clamping, grips the goods on side opposite the adjacent rotor involved.

  • Patent number: 4313325
Abstract: A push bench is provided for the production of tube blooms in which the last roll stands of a plurality of roll stands one behind the other in the direction of pushing have radially adjustably supported rolls, said radially adjustably supported rolls being radially adjustable at the beginning of each working cycle with regard to the diameter or diameter tolerance of the mandrel rod being used for that work cycle.

  • Patent number: 4277967
Abstract: The rollers of a push bench for the production of tubular blooms are axially displaceably journalled on respective spindles so that the rollers are centered by the bloom. For machining the working surfaces of the rollers, the rollers, or their shafts to which they are fixed, can be axially locked in position and the roller shaft has a releasable coupling for coupling the roller shaft to a drive motor or drive shaft, whereby all the rollers can be machined simultaneously without removing them from the stand.

  • Patent number: 4274274
Abstract: The frame (2) of a rolling mill has a U-shaped mounting (12) for receiving and locating rolling stands (8). A pivoted limb (12a) of the mounting can be swung down to form a bridge between the frame (2) and a change-over trolley (5) for the purpose of transferring the stands between the frame and the trolley by means of draw-and-thrust-rods 15.

  • Patent number: 4255956
Abstract: Apparatus for sizing square metal ingots to be subsequently pierced in a push bench to form pierced blanks for rolling into tubes is provided having freely rotatable sizing rolls to engage the corner edges of the ingot as the ingot is pushed through the support and freely rotatable guiding rollers to engage the side faces of the ingot. The sizing rolls are radially adjustable by means of both a coarse adjustment device and a fine adjustment device while the guiding rollers are only provided with coarse adjustment. The adjustment devices can be computer controlled so that both ends of the ingot are conically tipped and so that the ingot is slightly tapered throughout its length.

  • Patent number: 4251903
Abstract: A roll turning or grinding machine is provided adapted to receive a multi-roll stand, such as a four-roll stand whose rolls are to be machined or ground by means of a tool, the roll stand being not provided with a drive shaft for the rolls whereby the rolls rotate freely or idly during a rolling operation, said machine having gear wheels journalled in a support and driven by a motor and engaging counter-wheels attached to the rolls for driving the rolls to machine them or while they are being ground.

  • Patent number: 4215855
Abstract: A cooling bed for cooling and straightening rods or bars which are delivered hot from a rolling mill as side-by-side conveyor chains provided with projections between which pockets for the articles are defined. Reversal sprocket wheels at the infeed end are interconnected so that the pockets at the infeed end remain accurately in alignment, notwithstanding chain wear and differential expansion under the heat conditions. Reversal sprocket wheels at the discharge end are not drivingly interconnected, at least under normal operating conditions. Individual hydraulic drive motors drive the reversal wheels as shown or separate drive wheels which cooperate with the lower runs of the conveyor chains to keep the upper runs taut individually. The individually driven sprocket wheels are mounted with angular lost motion on a connection shaft to avoid one of the motors being overloaded under exceptional circumstances.
