  • Patent number: 7399503
Abstract: Process for producing a multilayer coating, in which a first coating (A) has applied to it a subsequent coating material (B) which is then cured involves selecting and/or modifying the first coating (A) and/or selecting the coating material (B) in such a way that the quotient (Q) formed from the surface energy of the second coating (B) and the surface energy of the first coating (A) is less than or equal to 1, and its use.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 30, 2004
Date of Patent: July 15, 2008
    Assignee: BASF Coatings AG
Inventors: Klaus Holzapfel, Peter Mayenfels, Hubert Baumgart, Theodora Dirking

  • Patent number: 5212981
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and device for measuring the effective viscosity and the elastic properties of coatings. Known measuring processes and measuring devices based on the "rolling ball method" suffer from drawbacks, namely run formation and sinking of the relatively heavy solvent vapors, due to the inclination of the coated sheet metal. To overcome these drawbacks, rolling movements are imparted to a magnetizable ball (1) displaced from its rest position in a magnetic field, during movement of the horizontally disposed substrate, under the influence of the field gradient of a permanent magnet or electromagnet (4) located below the substrate. The rolling movements are used as the basis for the measurements.

  • Patent number: 4956096
Abstract: A process for removing from electrocoating baths impurities which cause surface defects. The invention relates to a process for removing from electrocoating baths impurities which cause surface defects, wherein the electrocoating paint, in addition to the purification operations which are already conventional, is filtered without pressure through an adsorbent which adsorbs hydrophobic substances having a surface tension.ltoreq.35 mN/m--preferably homopolymers or copolymers of ethylene, propylene, but-1-ene or but-2-ene, which, if appropriate, contain further nonpolar comonomers.
