  • Publication number: 20080319440
Abstract: An electrosurgical system is provided having a handpiece adapted to receive a plurality of different end effectors such that, when a particular end effector is attached to the handpiece, the end effector is recognized by either or both the handpiece and a separate electrosurgical generator so that the operational parameters for the particular end effector attached to the handpiece are selected.

  • Patent number: 6673087
Abstract: Surgical scissors include a pair of scissor blades mounted at a distal end of an elongated flexible body and a housing attached to the proximal end of the elongated body. An actuator is coupled with mechanical advantage to the scissor blades for manually controlling shearing movement of the blades in response to finger movement on the actuator back and forth along the housing. Electrical conductors are provided through body and housing from a connector to the scissor blades. The housing is configured to be assembled in mating shells with components assembled in and confined by attached shells that facilitate rapid and accurate fabrication.

  • Patent number: 6464701
Abstract: Bipolar electrosurgical scissors are disclosed having a pair of blades joined for relative movement in a scissor-like action between open and closed positions. The blades comprise a tissue contacting surface and first and second spaced apart electrodes extending along the surface. Current flow between the first and second electrodes of each blade and between each blade to promote hemostasis in tissue contacting the surface.

  • Patent number: 6113596
Abstract: An electrosurgical instrument system including an RF energy source that has two bipolar terminals of opposite polarity and two monopolar terminals, one being active and the other being passive. Switches are provided for selectively energizing the bipolar terminals and the monopolar terminals. The system includes an electrosurgical instrument that has two tissue-contacting members and at least two electrodes. One electrode may be associated with each of the tissue-contacting members, or both electrodes may be associated with one of the tissue-contacting members. Two conductors are provided for connecting the two electrodes to the positive and negative bipolar terminals respectively. A third conductor is provided for connecting either of the electrodes or one of the tissue-contacting members to the active monopolar terminal. The system also includes a patient return electrode pad which is in electrical communication with the pass of monopolar terminal.

  • Patent number: 5951549
Abstract: An electrosurgical instrument, such as a scissors, in which the handle and blade members are of a conventional construction. Each blade member supports a detachable cartridge member made of an insulating material and supporting at least one electrode. The cartridge members do not interfere with the cutting engagement of the blade members. Each cartridge member can also permit relative movement between its electrode and associated cutting edge from a first position in which the electrodes are between the cutting edges (when the blades are open) to a second position in which each electrode is behind its respective cutting edge (as the blades are closed).

  • Patent number: 4460822
Abstract: A steam cooker comprising a heating chamber and integral steam-generating chamber in open communication with the heating chamber such that steam generated in the steam-generating chamber flows freely from the steam-generating chamber into the heating chamber, a cooking chamber supported in the heating chamber in a position to be exposed throughout the major portion of its entire surface to the steam in the heating chamber and orifices in certain of the exposed surfaces of the cooking chamber through which steam is admitted to the cooking chamber.
