    Abstract: Described herein are assistant robots that observe signs of core health, health dangers, and/or signs of medical distress in a home or at work. As such, the assistant robots can take actions to prevent dangerous situations, diagnose health problems, respond to requests for help, and provide regular treatments or analysis of a person's medical state. The assistant robots can learn users' habits or be provided with knowledge regarding humans in its environment. The assistant robots develop a schedule and contextual understanding of the persons' behavior and needs. The assistant robots may interact, understand, and communicate with people before, during, or after providing assistance. The robot can combine gesture, clothing, emotional aspect, time, pose recognition, action recognition, and other observational data to understand people's medical condition, current activity, and future intended activities and intents.

    Abstract: A computer-assisted medical system includes a manipulator, an instrument holder physically coupled to the manipulator arm, and a controller that includes a computer processor. The instrument holder includes an instrument holder carriage configured to releasably couple to an instrument and translate the instrument along a longitudinal axis. The controller applies a signal that represents a movement for the instrument along the longitudinal axis to a filter to differentiate between a first and a second motion component of the movement along the longitudinal axis, and causes the instrument to move in accordance with the movement along the longitudinal axis by commanding the manipulator arm to move based on the first motion component of the movement along the longitudinal axis. The controller further commands, based on the second motion component of the movement along the longitudinal axis, the instrument holder carriage to move relative to the manipulator arm.

    Abstract: A hydrophilic surface pattern on a removal surface of a steam turbine directs surface moisture in at least one predetermined direction to enhance moisture management by enhancing moisture removal or otherwise reducing erosion caused by moisture in the steam turbine. In some embodiments, the removal surface is located on the outer surface of the nozzle wall adjacent an extraction opening. In some embodiments, the removal surface is located on the surface of the bucket and directs moisture toward the turbine rotor. In some embodiments, the removal surface is located on the surface of the turbine casing or the surface of the nozzle and directs moisture toward a drain in the turbine casing. The hydrophilic surface pattern is preferably laser-etched as a nano-scale pattern to create the hydrophilic surface. In some embodiments, the hydrophilic surface pattern creates a superhydrophilic surface.

A replication interface receives a request from a client to store a dataset in the distributed computer network. The replication interface replicates the dataset to the first set of the storage servers synchronously, and a remaining set of the storage servers, e.g., storage servers that are outside of the halo asynchronously. The replication interface can perform the synchronous and asynchronous replication simultaneously. The halo can be determined based on various parameters, including a halo latency, which indicates a permissible latency threshold between the client and a storage server to which the dataset is to be replicated synchronously.
