  • Patent number: 7649864
Abstract: An allocation period for packet data in a packet data communication system is determined. Measurements from mobile stations are collected and a maximum allocation period for at least one possible base station for transmitting data packets to the mobile station is determined on the basis of the collected measurements. A base station and a corresponding allocation period are selected on the basis of the at least one determined maximum allocation period.

  • Patent number: 7248875
Abstract: The invention provides a method, system, and network entity for improving Soft Handover (SHO) Gain in networks, preferably in CDMA networks, comprising the step of determining the network performance in the UL (uplink) or in the DL (downlink), or both in the UL (uplink) and in the DL (downlink), and of measuring and tuning at least one or more of those parameters, preferably system outputs, that are directly related to SHO Gain, so as to control, preferably maximise, SHO Gain. The determination of the network performance provides an indicator of when and where SHO Gains are needed. The invention can be implemented in the RNC and/or BS and can e.g. be part of RAN, e.g. an UTRAN solution as well as IP RAN.

  • Patent number: 7047018
Abstract: The invention relates to a radio telecommunication system comprising means (508) for determining a bit rate increase in a cell on the basis of capacity requests, means (508) for estimating the increase of transmission power caused by the capacity increase, means (508, 518) for determining the cell power on the basis of the current cell power and the estimated power increase, means (508, 518) for estimating the increase of the transmission power needed in the neighbouring cells caused by the capacity growth in the current cell, means (508) for limiting the resource allocation in the cell requesting capacity.

  • Publication number: 20050227699
Abstract: The traffic loading in a CDMA or WCDMA system changes all the time and there can be large variations during the day or week. This means that the system sometimes operates near or at overload level. Thus, in the worst cases, there are periods of abnormal loadings from cell to cell, which is beyond any traffic forecast. On other occasions, some cells are slightly loaded. Therefore, the invention relates to a method and device for optimisation radio resource utilisation in a radio access network, wherein a trade-off between cell capacity and link quality is dynamically adjusted according to the actual cell load. In the case of high cell load connection quality of links within the cell is decreased and in case of low cell load connection quality of links within the cell is improved.

  • Publication number: 20040203613
Abstract: A mobile terminal comprising an address book for registering identification numbers of the persons who exchange messages with the user of the mobile terminal, a memory for storing a received text message, and a conversion engine for converting the stored message to a voice message. The mobile terminal sequentially reads the text message stored in the memory and converts the text message to the voice message using the conversion engine for output. The address book stores a voice characteristic code of the person associated with each identification number, and the conversion engine converts the text message to the voice message using the voice characteristic code. The mobile terminal thus converts a text message to a voice message having the characteristics of the voice of the person who sent the text message for subsequent output.

  • Patent number: 6285662
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, by which to select the size of a contention window within which to transmit a packet of data upon a random access channel in a multi-user scheme. The number of time slots allocated to form random access channels in a frame is selectably variable in a dynamic manner. Advantage is made of the dynamic allocation of random access channels to select the size of the contention window. Operation is advantageously implemented in a mobile terminal operable in a wireless LAN (local area network), such as that set forth in the BRAN (broadband access network) promulgated by the ETSI.
