  • Patent number: 4522975
Abstract: Select NCO-terminated, uretdione group-containing polyurethane prepolymers are prepared by reacting a uretdione group-containing organic polyisocyanate with an isocyanate reactive hydrogen atom-containing compound, employing a select equivalent ratio of NCO to OH ranging from about 1.5/1 to about 2/1. The polyurethane prepolymers are useful in the preparation of lignocellulosic composite materials, such as particle board, and in making coatings.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 1, 1984
Date of Patent: June 11, 1985
    Assignee: Olin Corporation
Inventors: James M. O'Connor, Theodore C. Kraus, Wilhelm J. Schnabel
  • Patent number: 4496529
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for preparing metal cyanates by reacting an alkyl carbamate having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a lower alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms with an alkali metal hydride or an alkaline earth metal hydride.

  • Patent number: 4210727
Abstract: Graft copolymers are prepared by the polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, or a mixture of such monomers, in the presence of a peroxy di-ester polyol. Presence of the peroxy group in the polyol reactant itself serves as a free radical initiator site for the graft copolymerization reaction. The copolymers formed are utilized in the formulation of polyurethane compositions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 15, 1979
Date of Patent: July 1, 1980
    Assignee: Olin Corporation
Inventors: Frank J. Preston, Theodore C. Kraus, Kiran B. Chandalia
  • Patent number: 4165432
Abstract: Compounds containing peroxy linkages connecting similar polyol ester constituents are described. These peroxy di-ester polyols are prepared by the direct esterification of peroxy diacids with polyols, in the presence of a strong mineral acid catalyst. The peroxy di-ester polyol products function as free radical initiators and grafting bases in the graft copolymerization of unsaturated monomers with polyols. These graft copolymers are useful in the formulation of polyurethanes.
