Abstract: A multimedia system has multiple media sources switchable under user control to a common set of output presentation devices. A table stores parameter values for each media source separately, so that selection of a source changes the parameters of the displayed media to values appropriate for that source. A user input device has selection keys, and also has keys for modifying the values of the parameters. The modified parameter values are stored in the table, so that they persist when the same media device is selected at a later time.

Abstract: A method and system that enables subscribers of any mobile network operator to exchange free or premium profiles, content, and services, and to receive (or share with others, such as publishers and developers) revenue resulting from transactions, preferably over a social network. In one embodiment, members of the service create one or more “profiles” that correspond to the member's persona. Preferably, profiles are built using a web browser or directly on a mobile device such as a phone. Typically, a profile comprises one or more pages containing text, images, multimedia, and advertising. In addition, profiles can include “plug-in” services developed by third parties. Members may send their profiles to other members or non-members. Similarly, anyone with a mobile phone can request the profile of a member. Multiple social networks may be aggregated on a user's mobile device. The techniques described herein facilitate the fusion of mobile application platforms and mobile social networks.

The convergence system is controlled by a multi-function controller suitable for providing a set of function commands. A processor is coupled to the inputs, display and operably coupled to the controller wherein the processor responds to the function commands provided by the controller. The processor also creates for output on the display a set of channel banners. At least one of the channel banners provides information on available processor functions and provides video feed-back when the processor is responding to the function commands.

Abstract: The present invention provides method and apparatus for defining and redefining adynamic graphical user interface, which can control multiple applications or applets with one graphical user interface. As new applications or applets are launched, the graphical user interface determines the functionality of the newly added application. Existing functions are used if they are equal to functions required of the new application or applet. New functionality is added if required.

Abstract: A computerized system for integrating internet sources and television sources in a convergence system is disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention, the system integrates both television channels and internet channels in a single list of channels available on the system. The lists of channels are stored in an electronic program database. The system solves the problem of managing multiple channels from multiple sources by seamlessly integrating channels from the television with channels from the internet in a single channel list.

Abstract: Many home entertainment systems include a video cassette recorder or other recording device that has an automatic recording feature. The automatic recording feature, which automatically starts a scheduled recording without user intervention, may start recording without enough recording tape to complete the scheduled recording or may inadvertently over-record a one-of-a-kind recording of a birth, marriage, or graduation. Accordingly, one embodiment of the present invention includes a receiver for receiving a channel signal which carries a plurality of programs; a recording device for recording one of the programs; and an output device for outputting a reminder signal before the recording device begins recording the one program. In preferred embodiments, the output device includes a reminder database for storing a remind time that determines when the reminder signal is output, and the reminder signal provides a message concerning recording media.

Abstract: A system for scheduling caching of in-band data operates as part of a computerized system to receive and store data broadcast in-band in a channel at a scheduled time. The scheduled caching system determines the scheduled time and channel for the in-band data broadcast and causes a real-time clock in the computerized system to schedule a subsequent execution of the scheduled caching system at approximately the scheduled time. When the scheduled caching system subsequently executes, the scheduled caching system instructs tuning circuitry in the computerized-system to tune to the scheduled channel, receives the in-band data from the tuning circuitry and stores the in-band data on mass storage for subsequent processing. The scheduled caching system also powers on the tuning circuitry and parses the in-band data from other content broadcast in the channel if necessary.

Abstract: In one embodiment a method for enabling composition of a multimedia (MM) message on a mobile terminal (MT) is provided. The method comprises creating a message template for the MM message; provisioning the MT with the template; and provisioning a messaging user agent (UA) for the MT with logic to allow a user to compose the MM message based on the template.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for operating a multi-media (MM) messaging device is provided. The method includes generating an MM request to a messaging component within a network; and before sending the MM request, determining if there is an MM entity stored locally in the messaging device that can be used as a response to the MM request.

Also, a user interface component is included for providing a partial-screen graphical user interface in response to the data set of a selected source. In one embodiment of the invention, the computerized system generates a list of favorite channels based on a theme selected by the user. In another embodiment of the invention, the computerized system generates a list of favorite channels based on the channels most frequently viewed by the user.

Abstract: An architecture for convergence systems is disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention, the architecture includes views, overlays, and system services. The views each provide a graphical user interface. The overlays each provide a partial graphical user interface cooperating with and consistent over the views. The system services each provide common functionality and/or user interfaces shared by the views and the overlays.

A channel map services component includes a listing of receivers of programming associated with the convergence environment and a listing of channels associated with the receivers. A TV services component uses the channel map services component, and the content services component to control the hardware component of the convergence environment to manage the hardware component of the convergence environment. The TV services component controls the audio/video multiplexer to reroute programing signals from receivers to outputs of the audio/video multiplexer and various devices attached to the outputs, at various times.
