  • Patent number: 6320556
Abstract: A radio frequency antenna-containing element with good flexibility and bend properties is produced utilizing a flexible substrate, an adhesive, and a conductive foil or film. The adhesive and conductive foil or film are applied to the substrate so that they have the configuration of an RF antenna. This facilitates a method of making such an element in a high speed and in a simple manner that will function well, can be aesthetic or convey information as well as being functional, and with other optimum properties.

  • Patent number: 6236463
Abstract: A system and method are provided which have the ability to print whole documents at a time, rather than page by page. The data for an entire multi-page document is fed directly to an output device, and then a print engine. The data stream includes a record layout including data field codes which tell the data system and/or raster image processor where to print strings of variable information in a document so that the strings only need be provided once even if printed in multiple places within the document. Data flows in the data stream to the print engine as the raster image processor functions in real time. The system has the capability to manipulate and transfer data at 10 Mbytes per second, which translate into a transfer rate of approximately 92,000 characters per second at up to 1,000 feet per minute print speeds, for up to six controllers.

  • Patent number: 5949438
Abstract: A raster image processing system and method that can keep up with the fastest high resolution printers now available can process images "on the fly"--that is, generate images from compact input representations so rapidly that printing can occur substantially in the same real time as raster image processing of input data. This system is capable of automatically "screening" data relating to the images so that the various gray scales or color levels are correct for a contone printing process. Different print engine control modules can be replaceably plugged into and out of the system to allow it to be used with different types of print engines/intelligent imaging systems--including high speed, high resolution color printing engines. A high speed data cache and associated array disk drive provide high speed throughput of data into the system. The disk array may, for example, store a library of high resolution graphics that can be accessed "on the fly" as needed in response to the input data stream.

  • Patent number: 5933177
Abstract: An erase unit for an ion deposition web-fed print engine includes a plenum extending the width of the electrostatic image on the image cylinder and defining an ionization chamber with the image cylinder surface. The plenum has first and second electrodes separated by a dielectric. Upon application of a time-varying potential having a frequency of 0.2 to 50 mHz across the electrodes, ionization occurs, causing an ion current flowing in relation to the image surface until the image surface and the biasing electrode are at the same potential, thus erasing any residual electrostatic image on the cylindrical surface. By providing a DC biasing voltage, the residual electrostatic image may be erased when equalization occurs, with the image cylinder maintaining a pre-charged potential.

  • Patent number: 5845302
Abstract: Variable color configuration (VCC) relates to an automated system which allows for the printing of high-quality, highly-personalized documents in relatively small quantities and in a cost efficient manner, when compared with conventional runs. The system relates to a reliable means by which the correct colored images, as well as variable or selective or static or fixed text can be merged into a single, complete document. The system allows for the insertion of fixed as well as variable data into the layout of the document.

  • Patent number: 5828814
Abstract: A reduced cost, scaled down raster image processor (RIP) provides fast real time imaging without the cost and complexity of prior designs. The scaled down RIP can be tailored to accommodate image generation in a particular printing range to efficiently run print bars at a reduced equipment cost. The scaled down RIP utilized a personality module in conjunction with a scaled down controller to provide limited print information to a print engine. The personality module tailors the system for a particular print engine, such as a Moore.RTM. Independent Cartridge Array (MICA) ink jet printer. The personality module is responsible for requesting and reading raster data to build up the staging RAM. A pair of EEPROMs may be used to control each bar read according to the position and distance from the other. Pixel data is then sent to the service station along with the print bar address.
