  • Patent number: 5881115
Abstract: A Supervisory Sequential Controller Interface (SSCI) provides for automatic and manual sequencing of the sequential steps of multiple procedures simultaneously in a complex process facility while preserving operator supervisory control over each procedure. The SSCI includes an Executive Interface which gives the operator global control over all of the procedures and a Procedure Interface which is arranged such that the operator may ascertain the relevant information about a particular procedure, including the mode (auto/manual), the current step being executed and the relevant states of plant components and parameters for the current step. Multiple Procedure Interface screens may be displayed to monitor/execute multiple procedures running simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 5311562
Abstract: An integrated information system is provided for a plant with interactive processes running in functional equipment subsets, such as a nuclear power generation plant. Sensors are operatively coupled to monitor processes and equipment in the plant, collecting sample data for assessing operational conditions and for predicting maintenance requirements based on loading of the equipment. One or more processors access the sample data and compares present conditions to diagnostic specifications, technical specifications and historical data stored in memory and indexed to equipment subsets and functional operating groups. The processor(s) generate prioritized reports to alert users to potential operational and/or maintenance problems. In addition to the prioritized reports, the processor accesses and outputs to the users reports of the diagnostic and technical specifications applicable to the process parameters exhibiting the potential problems.

  • Patent number: 4666102
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically dispensing and taking-up a flexible communications cable such as an optical fiber includes a motor-driven reel which is mounted on a movable member, such as a vehicle. The fiber passes through a pivotably mounted tension control arm, whose angular position is detected to control the motor. Depending on the position of the tension control arm, the reel may be rotated in one direction to relieve fiber tension, it may be rotated in the opposite direction to take-up slack, or it may remain quiescent. The reel is mounted on a pipe which channels the inner end of the fiber to a rotary optical coupler, thereby permitting the fiber to be used for optical communication as the vehicle moves. The level-winding mechanism similar to that in a fishing reel may be used to control the windings on the reel, and a pivotably mounted plate may be pressed against the upper layer of fiber on the reel in order to keep it from unraveling.
