  • Patent number: 9392935
Abstract: Methods are disclosed, for performing therapeutic or diagnostic procedures at a remote site. According to one embodiment, the methods include the use of a system including an introducer designed for transcervical insertion into the uterus. The introducer is constructed to include a fluid lumen, an instrument lumen, and a visualization lumen. The system may include a fluid source, which is coupled to the fluid lumen and is used to deliver a fluid to the uterus either for washing the uterus or for fluid distension of the uterus. The system additionally includes a tissue modifying device, such as a morcellator, and a distension device for distending the uterus and/or for maintaining the uterus in a distended state. The tissue modifying device and the distension device are alternately deliverable to the uterus through the instrument lumen. The system may further include a hysteroscope deliverable to the uterus through the visualization lumen.

  • Publication number: 20160113732
Abstract: A surgical tool comprises a manipulator adapted to receive at least a portion of a hand of an operator. A proximal universal joint has a first end mounted to the manipulator. A hollow elongated member has a first end mounted to a second end of the proximal universal joint. A distal universal joint has a first end mounted to a second end of the elongated member. An end effector comprises a universal joint element pivotally mounted to a second end of the distal universal joint for rotation about a first axis, and a base member pivotally connected to the joint element for rotation about a second axis perpendicular to the first axis. Pivoting of the first end of the proximal universal joint causes the end effector to move in a corresponding motion.

  • Publication number: 20160030730
Abstract: A valve is disclosed, the valve comprising a housing having an first opening and a second opening, and an elastomeric member positioned in the housing, the elastomeric member comprising a thickness, a continuous peripheral wall projecting from the thickness, and a slit extending through the thickness, a continuous portion of the peripheral wall creating a continuous sealable contact with the housing and partitioning the housing into an upper section and a lower section, the elastomeric member configured such that upon creating a pressure differential between the upper section and the lower section of the housing causes either: (i) the peripheral wall to deflect from the housing permitting fluid flow around the elastomeric member; or (ii) the slit to open permitting fluid flow through the elastomeric member. Methods using the valve are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20150313796
Abstract: In one aspect, the invention is directed to a port assembly for establishing fluid communication between a first container and a second container. The port assembly includes a retainer for connecting a first container, where the retainer is positioned in a cavity defined by a port housing that includes an axially fixed actuator. The housing also includes a plug member constructed to seal a fluid passageway between the port housing and an interior of a second container. The plug member is configured to move axially relative to the actuator. Rotation of the retainer relative to the actuator causes the plug member to move to an open position in which it does not seal a fluid passageway between the port housing and an interior of a second container. The rotation of the retainer relative to the port housing also causes the retainer to move axially relative to the port housing so that the actuator forces a stopper associated with a first container connected to the retainer into a first container.
