  • Patent number: 4264344
Abstract: A serviceable exhaust particulate trap for diesel engines comprising, in a preferred embodiment, a concentric dual bath filter including a tubular outer filter element of high surface area, such as pleated paper or the like, acting as a primary filter, and a tubular mesh-packed secondary filter in a central bypass passage. A normally closed pressure relief valve opens to permit bypass flow through the secondary filter in order to limit back pressure acting on the primary filter under various operating conditions. The particulate trap may be combined in a convenient package with a vehicle muffler.

  • Patent number: 4211075
Abstract: Diesel exhaust filter and incineration control systems are disclosed which provide intake throttling of the diesel engine as a primary means of raising exhaust temperature in the filter for the periodic burn-off of collected particulates. Various embodiments and supplemental means of increasing exhaust temperatures are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4122668
Abstract: A gas turbine engine of the two shaft free turbine type has a first gasifier turbine for driving a compressor to supply air to a combustor for combustion with fuel to produce motive fluid for driving the compressor turbine and a second free wheeling power turbine. An air brake with a compressor impeller directly coupled to the power turbine has an inlet and an exhaust and a close coupled iris throttle assembly for regulating the inlet flow of air into the compressor to obtain maximized power turn down ratios without aerodynamic instability.

  • Patent number: 4054417
Abstract: A regenerative-filter-incinerator device, for use in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine of the diesel type, includes a drum-like regenerative-heat exchanger-filter assembly rotatably mounted within a housing that is adapted to be installed directly in the exhaust gas stream discharged from a diesel engine as close to the engine as possible, the regenerative-heat exchanger-filter assembly provides an inner chamber which serves as a reaction chamber for the secondary combustion of exhaust gases including particulates discharged from the engine. The regenerative-heat exchanger-filter assembly includes a plurality of separately rotatable heat exchange-filter elements pervious to radial flow of fluid therethrough and adapted to filter out particulates from the exhaust gases and to carry them into the reaction chamber.
