  • Patent number: 9907932
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for delivery of substances or apparatus to target sites located outside blood vessels within the body of a human or animal patient. A vessel wall penetrating catheter is inserted into the vasculature, positioned and oriented within a blood vessel near the target extravascular site and a penetrator is advanced from the catheter so as to penetrate outwardly through the wall of the blood vessel in the direction of the target site. Thereafter, a delivery catheter is passed through a lumen of the penetrator to the target site. A desired substance or apparatus is then delivered to or obtained from the target site. In some applications, the penetrator may be retracted into the vessel wall penetrating catheter and the vessel wall penetrating catheter may be removed, leaving the delivery catheter in place for chronic or continuous delivery of substance(s) to and/or obtaining of information or samples from the target site.

  • Patent number: 8979801
Abstract: Delivery catheters useable to deliver substances, articles or devices to target locations within the bodies of human or animal subjects. The delivery catheter generally comprises a catheter having a tissue penetrating distal tip member on the distal end and one or more delivery aperture(s) whereby a substance, article or device may be delivered through the lumen of the catheter body and out of the delivery aperture(s). In some applications, the substance delivery catheter is used in combination with a transluminal tissue penetrating catheter having a penetrator that is advanced to a first location. The delivery catheter is then advanced through (or over) the penetrator, through intervening tissue, to a desired target location.

  • Patent number: 8672920
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for delivery of substances or apparatus to target sites located outside blood vessel lumens. A penetrating catheter is inserted into a blood vessel lumen and a penetrator is advanced from the catheter in the direction of the target site. Thereafter, a delivery catheter is passed through a lumen of the penetrator to the target site. A desired substance or apparatus is then delivered to or obtained from the target site. In some applications, the delivery catheter may remain in place for chronic or continuous delivery of substance(s) to and/or obtaining of information or samples from the target site. Alternatively, a delivery catheter having an occlusion member may be advanced into a vein or venule and used to occlude the lumen of the vein or venule during and after injection of a substance such that the substance will not be carried away by normal venous blood flow.

  • Publication number: 20080269876
Abstract: Incompetency or regurgitation of a cardiac valve is treated by injecting a space occupying material or implanting a space occupying device within a papillary muscle or in heart tissue near a papillary muscle to cause lengthening or repositioning of the papillary muscle in a manner that improves coaptation of the valve leaflets and lessens valvular incompetency or regurgitation. The procedure may be performed by open thoracotomy, thoracoscopically, by a tran-endocardial catheter based approach or by a trans-coronary catheter based approach.

  • Publication number: 20080249618
Abstract: Incompetency or regurgitation of a cardiac valve is treated by injecting a space occupying material(s) or implanting a space occupying device(s) at an interstitial location adjacent to the valve such that the space occupying material or device exerts pressure on the valve causing one or more leaflets of the valve to be favorably repositioned. The procedure may be performed by open thoracotomy, thorascopically or transluminally using a tissue penetrating catheter.
