  • Patent number: 6557465
Abstract: Two ink applicators, each with an ink roll and an ink chamber, for supplying ink to a print roll, and one or more applicator adjustment mechanisms for retracting one ink applicator away from the print roll while the other ink applicator contacts and supplies ink to the print roll. The applicator adjustment mechanisms has eccentric bearings and gears, a primary actuator operates each applicator adjustment mechanism, and a secondary actuator operates a travel limiting mechanism connected to the primary actuator. Alternatively, one or more actuators operate one or more pivot arms, with the ink applicators mounted thereon, for engaging or retracting the ink applicators. A main drive rotates the print roll and the ink rolls, a registration adjustment mechanism with differential gearing permits adjusting the print roll rate of rotation, and an idle drive mechanism with clutches and motors permits rotating the ink rolls independently of the main drive.

  • Patent number: 6062751
Abstract: A disclosed embodiment of the invention is a belt-driven printer-cutter machine 10 including a roller-mounted feed/print machine section 14 and a fixed cutting machine section 16. A spline-type separable coupling 30-32 between these machine sections allows the feed/print section to be rolled on a fixed track 18 directly opposite the machine direction to separate the machine sections for maintenance, changing the printing plate 88 and cutting die 108, and to make other adjustments during machine setup. The sections may then be rolled back into engagement at the spline-type coupling to transmit power between the machine sections. The printer-cutter machine includes separate synchronous belts for the drive trains of each machine section. The machine may also include a separate synchronous belt for the fixed and adjustable rolls of each machine section.

  • Patent number: 4584052
Abstract: A single facer machine of the vacuum or fingerless type for making a corrugated paperboard laminate. A new means for applying vacuum to the paperboard on the second corrugator roll. The second corrugator roll is provided with axially spaced circumferential grooves, the grooves being deeper than the flutes on the roll. Each groove is provided with a vacuum finger, coupled to a source of vacuum, each vacuum finger being curved at its intake mouth which sealingly engages the sides of its respective groove to supply vacuum thereto. The angular extent of the curved intake mouth is supplementary to the angular extent of engagement of the corrugated paperboard with the second corrugator roll.
