  • Patent number: 4911956
Abstract: An apparatus for spraying droplets of molten thermoplastic adhesive comprises a spray device having a nozzle formed with a discharge outlet which ejects a continuous stream of molten thermoplastic adhesive. A stitcher device connected to a source of pressurized air is operative to supply intermittent, pulsed jets of atomizing air to air jet bores associated with the nozzle which discharge the pulsed air jets into contact with the exterior of the continuous stream of molten thermoplastic material forming well defined globules or droplets for deposition onto a substrate.

    Assignee: Nordson Corporation
Inventors: Gregory J. Gabryszewski, Theodore M. Hadzimihalis
  • Patent number: 4844004
Abstract: Apparatus for applying multiple narrow, closely spaced beads of viscous liquid, such as hot melt adhesive, to a substrate comprises first and second blades between which there is a thin shim having a plurality of parallel, closely spaced slots open to and in fluid communication with a slot cavity in one of the blades such that high pressure, viscous liquid supplied to the slot cavity exits onto the substrate from between the blades through the slots in the shim.

Date of Patent: July 4, 1989
    Assignee: Nordson Corporation

  • Patent number: 4735169
Abstract: An applicator assembly for applying hot melt adhesive to a substrate such as the end flaps of a sift-proof carton includes slot nozzles employing elongated, wear-resistant doctor blades formed with a fluid discharge slot. The doctor blades, preferably in the form of hardened steel plates, are releasably clamped to the body of the applicator in communication with the outlet of an internal passageway in the applicator body which receives adhesive from a flow control device such as an adhesive gun. The plates forming the doctor blades are separated by a shim to define the fluid discharge slot into which the adhesive flows from the internal passageway. The lowermost ends of the doctor blades are formed in various configurations to spread the adhesive in the desired pattern or thickness on the substrate depending upon the type of adhesive employed or the requirements of a given application.
