  • Patent number: 4563199
Abstract: A method for continuously removing volatile organic paint carriers from paint spray booths is disclosed. By the process described, an oil-in-water emulsion is used to contact oversprayed paint in the paint spray booth. The emulsion is then broken and the oil phase is distilled to recover volatile components. The non-volatile components of the oil phase and recovered water are then recombined to form an emulsion and recycled to the paint spray booth.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 4, 1983
Date of Patent: January 7, 1986
    Assignee: Nalco Chemical Company
Inventors: William H. Lindenberger, Theodore P. Sieder, Edwin C. Zuerner
  • Patent number: 4396405
Abstract: A method for continuously removing volatile organic solvent paint carriers from the atmosphere of paint spray booths is disclosed. By the process described, an oil-water emulsion is used to scrub volatile organic materials from the paint spray booth atmosphere. The emulsion is then broken and the oil phase is distilled to recover volatile components. The non-volatile components of the oil phase and recovered water are then recombined to form an emulsion and recycled to the paint spray booth.

Date of Patent: August 2, 1983
    Assignee: Nalco Chemical Company
Inventors: William H. Lindenberger, Theodore P. Sieder, Edwin C. Zuerner, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4151202
Abstract: Water-soluble polymers of diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride can be prepared from monomer solution containing a large amount of an alkali metal halide salt. Additionally, a method is disclosed for making high quality monomer which involves purification of allyl chloride which is used to prepare the starting monomeric material, optimum temperature control during caustic addition, and partial distillation to remove harmful impurities.

  • Patent number: 4049606
Abstract: Cationically modified polymers of acrylamide are prepared by adding to a polyacrylamide an aqueous solution of a lower aliphatic aldehyde followed by a lower alkyl secondary amine. The pH of the dilute solution of the acrylamide polymer which is reacted is adjusted prior to addition of the aldehyde to between 4.5 and 5.5 thereby conducting this reaction at an acidic pH. Additionally, quaternized polymers may be prepared by adding to the cationically modified polyacrylamide a lower alkyl halide quaternizing agent. The pH of the solution of the cationically modified acrylamide polymer prior to quaternization should be 7.5-8.5.
