Abstract: Disclosed herein are compounds of the formula: ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is substituted phenyl in which the substituents are one or two halogens, alkyl groups, carboxyl groups or alkoxycarbonyl groups;R.sub.2 is H or alkyl;R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are, independently, H, alkyl, halogen or nitro;and n is 1, 2 or 3;or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which are useful as inhibitors of smooth muscle cell proliferation.

Abstract: The compound of formula I ##STR1## in which R is alkynyl; and X and Y are, independently, alkyl, halo, perfluoralkyl, perfluoralkoxy, or, taken together, X and Y are ortho substituted trimethylene or tetramethylene are useful for increasing blood serum HDL levels.

Abstract: A method for increasing the HDL cholesterol concentration in the blood of a mammal in need of increased HDL cholesterol blood concentration, which comprises administering to said mammal, orally or parenterally, a compound of formula I: ##STR1## wherein R is alkyl; a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic N, O or S heterocycle; substituted or unsubstituted aryl, arylalkyl, benzhydryl or indanyl, in which the substituents are one to three members independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkenyl, alkynyl, halo, perfluoroalkyl, perfluoroalkyl or hydroxy; and R.sup.1 is aryl, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or substituted aryl where the substituents are one to three members independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkenyl, alkynyl, halo, perfluoroalkyl, perfluoroalkoxy or hydroxy.

Abstract: 4-(2,3-dichloro-6-fluorophenyl)-1,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-2-methyl-5-oxo-1,7-na phthyridine-3-carboxylic acid 2-(2,3-dichlorophenoxy)ethyl ester and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are useful antihypertensive agents.

Abstract: A new class of chemical compounds whose members exert an appetite suppressant and mood elevating effect in man has been invented. This class is defined as being composed of those compounds having the 1-substituted-2,5-benzodiazocine structure, fully saturated in the nonbenzenoid portion, and whose nitrogens are tervalent. Members of this class are prepared by condensing an orthobenzoylbenzoic acid or ester thereof with an ethylenediamine and reducing with a metallic alkaline hydride the product thus obtained.

Abstract: (Hexahydrobenzimidazol-2-yl)benzophenones are prepared by reaction of the .psi.-acid chloride of an o-aroyl benzoic acid with an N-monotosyl-1,2-diaminocyclohexane, and heating the resulting benzoyl benzamide product with sulfuric acid. The intermediate benzoyl benzamides are also claimed as are the benzophenones. The compounds are useful in hyperglycemia therapy.

Abstract: This invention is concerned with tetrahydropyrimidinyl phenyl carbonyl acid addition salts, imidazolinyl phenyl carbonyl acid addition salts, dihydroimidazoisoindolols, tetrahydropyrimidoisoindolols, and tetrahydropyrimidoisoindolol acid addition salts which are all pharmacologically efficacious as anti-depressants. The tetrahydropyrimidinyl phenyl carbonyl acid addition salts, the tetrahydropyrimidoisoindolols and the tetrahydropyrimidoisoindolol acid addition salts are also efficacious as diuretics while the imidazolinyl phenyl carbonyl acid addition salts and the dihydroimidazoisoindolols are efficacious as anorexiants. This invention is also concerned with several processes for the preparation of these compounds.

Abstract: 2-(N-alkyl-2-imidazolin-2-yl)-benzophenones are prepared by reaction of the .psi.-acid chloride of an o-aroyl benzoic acid with an N.sup.1 -alkyl-N.sup.2 -tosyl diamine and heating the resulting benzoyl benzamide product with sulfuric acid. The compounds demonstrate hypoglycemic antireserpine, antiulcerogenic or antiarrhythmic activity.
