  • Patent number: 7879232
Abstract: Double-sided, self-cleansing media, and systems incorporating the same for a rotating biological contactor, are described. The media include a disk having cone-shaped members extending perpendicularly from both major faces thereof. Two or more disks lock together, axially about a rotating central shaft, by connecting cone-shaped members spaced throughout the disk surface having a socket at their base to receive the top of the corresponding connecting cone-shaped member on the adjacent disk. The cone-shaped members, by virtue of their length, space the disks a desired distance. Disk segments can link to one another along either straight and/or curved connection portions thereof. The geometry of the media provides free passage of the air and water during each revolution, and while the base disk slices through the air and water, the projecting cone-shaped members enter the air and water perpendicular to the direction of rotation and are washed clear of excess biomass during each rotation.

  • Patent number: 7811449
Abstract: A wastewater treatment system is provided that utilizes an equalization tank that stores hydraulic surge flows from the collection system and uses a waterwheel to transfer a maximum flow equal to plant design flow to the downstream treatment systems. The waterwheel aerates the raw wastewater in the equalization tank and prevents it from going septic and causing unacceptable odors. Because the waterwheel cannot transfer more than plant design flow to the downstream treatment elements, these elements will never experience a hydraulic overload.

  • Patent number: 5142497
Abstract: A transducer apparatus for marine pleasure craft employs only gravity-induced forces to always orient its electroacoustic transducer in a downward direction or other predetermined direction. The apparatus mounts on the transom or hull of a pleasure craft, and includes a housing having a smoothly shaped exterior to permit laminar water flow past it. The housing has an internal cavity of preferably spherical shape in which a transducer assembly is mounted. The assembly includes an electroacoustic transducer and a transducer support structure that allows the transducer to move freely on account of gravity about a center of rotation in at least two orthogonal directions as the craft pitches and/or rolls. The transducer assembly is preferably constructed to have an overall specific gravity about equal to that of the liquid so it essentially floats in the liquid.

  • Patent number: 4809547
Abstract: A speed measuring device comprising an open ended venturi in a body having a streamlined support adapted for attachment to a boat hull or other large surface immersed in a fluid. Within the support is a cavity for transducers in fluid communication with the venturi to measure static fluid pressures therein. By means of a micro-controller and display the speed of the venturi and attached surface through the fluid can be continuously monitored and distance travelled calculated and displayed. Excessive angular displacement of the surface relative to the direction of movement can also be sensed and displayed in response to the static pressures sensed in the venturi.
