Abstract: A diesel engine timing apparatus comprising a luminosity probe including a photocell which in response to light generated by combustion of fuel in a selected chamber of the diesel engine generates an on or off signal depending on the respective presence or absence of light. Electronic circuitry elements process the on or off signal to produce an amplified output signal which is transmitted to light-generating elements disposed externally of the engine, e.g., a conventional inductive pick-up, strobe-type timing light. A pulsed visible light signal is thereby generated which may be employed to adjust the engine timing to a selected value in a conventional manner, by aligning of fixed and adjustable timing marks on stationary and motive portions of the diesel engine. The disclosed system is devoid of any magnetic probe or magnetic sensing structure.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for resurfacing valve seats in a cylinder head are based upon utilizing a modified constant velocity universal joint of the type used in front wheel drive automobiles. A valve seat resurfacing cutting tool is driven at a constant velocity by the universal joint. Use of such joint allows the series of valve seats having parallel valve stem guide holes to be resurfaced after bringing the axis of one of the corresponding valve stem guide holes into a precise vertical position.

Abstract: A cylinder head removal tool is provided for removing the cylinder head from the engine block of an engine of the type used in a Fiat Model 128, 1300, 1500, or X-1.9. The tool comprises an elongated bar made of tool steel with means for bolting the bar to the cylinder head and for mounting pusher bolts which can be tightened down onto exposed threaded ends of frozen studs holding the cylinder head. As the bolts are tightened down onto the studs the cylinder head is gradually lifted upward free from the studs.

Abstract: An electronic auto ignition unit is converted to a non-electronic, conventional type ignition unit by substituting a modified slip fit timing cam for the timing rotor of the electronic unit, a conventional plate-point-condensor assembly and driving the modified cam off the same shaft used to drive the timing rotor of the electronic unit.
