Patent number: 9617662Abstract: A metal cord has an M+N construction with two concentric layers. An internal first layer or core includes M wire(s) of diameter d1, M having a value from 1 to 4. An external second layer includes N wires of diameter d2 and is positioned around the core, the N wires being wound in a helix. Between the wires of the two layers are gaps, some or all of which include a filling rubber based on an unsaturated thermoplastic elastomer. The filling rubber may be, for example, based on an SBS or an SIS block copolymer. When used in a molten state, the thermoplastic elastomer presents no problem due to unwanted stickiness if the filling rubber overspills outside the cord after manufacture. The unsaturated and therefore (co)vulcanizable nature of the thermoplastic elastomer makes it compatible with diene rubber matrices used as calendering rubber in metal fabrics intended for reinforcing tires.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2012Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignees: Compagnie Generale Des Etablissements Michelin, Michelin Recherche Et Technique S.A.Inventors: Thibaud Pottier, Sébastien Rigo, Jérémy Toussain

Publication number: 20150159325Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a two-layer multistrand metal cord, N wires constituting an outer strand layer are wound in a helix around two wires constituting an inner strand layer, so as to form a strand. L>1 previously formed strands, which are incorporated as outer strands of an unsaturated outer cord layer of the cord, are wound in a helix around K>1 previously formed strands, which are incorporated as inner strands of an inner cord layer of the cord, to form a wound cord. The wound cord is overtwisted, the overtwisted cord is balanced so as to obtain zero residual torque in the overtwisted cord, and the balanced overtwisted cord is untwisted.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2013Publication date: June 11, 2015Inventors: Henri Barguet, Emmanuel Clement, Thibaud Rapenne, Thibaud Pottier

Publication number: 20130220505Abstract: Metal cord with a plurality of concentric layers, of the type rubberized in situ, i.e. a cord that is rubberized from the inside, during its actual manufacture, with a rubber known as a filling rubber, in which all or some of the gaps situated between the wires of the cord contain a thermoplastic elastomer of the unsaturated type, particularly an unsaturated thermoplastic stirene (TPS) elastomer such as an SBS, SBBS, SIS or SBIS block copolymer for example. Such a thermoplastic elastomer, used in the molten state, presents no problems of parasitic stickiness if the filling rubber overspills out of the cord following manufacture; its unsaturated and therefore (co)vulcanizable nature makes it extremely compatible with the diene rubber matrices, notably natural rubber matrices as conventionally used as calendering rubber in the metal fabrics intended for reinforcing tires.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2011Publication date: August 29, 2013Applicants: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A., Compagnie Generale Des Etablissements MichelinInventors: Thibaud Pottier, Sébastien Rigo, Jérémy Toussain
