Abstract: A communication system is provided, which includes a first powerline communication network via which a plurality of nodes can communicate with one another. Each node includes: a first communication interface, which interfaces the node with the first communication network and implements a first powerline communication protocol, and a component, which controls at least one equipment connected to the node. At least one of the nodes, called a gateway node, further includes: a second communication interface, which interfaces the gateway node with at least a second communication network and implements a second communication protocol, and at least one service provider, which provides at least one service to a terminal connected to the gateway node via the at least one second communication network and the second interface.
