    Abstract: A method for monitoring the quality of a communication channel supported by a sliding contact is provided. The method includes controlling application of a continuous electrical signal onto one of elements of the sliding contact, receiving measured values of electrical signals measured on other of the elements of the sliding contact, estimating from the measured values, a variance parameter value, comparing the variance parameter value with a threshold and, on the basis of a result of the comparison, generating a signal representative of a quality of the communication channel.
