  • Publication number: 20230313058
Abstract: Gasification method comprising the following steps of: a) bringing, in a main reactor, beads made of steel, an alloy, glass or ceramic, at a temperature between 600° C. and 1,000° C., into contact with a feedstock mixture comprising water and a biomass, the biomass comprising an organic part and salts, the main reactor being pressurised to more than 224 bar and at a temperature above 200° C. b) gasifying the organic part in the presence of the beads, thereby forming a gaseous phase, an aqueous phase and a solid residue, and whereby the salts precipitate on the beads, forming a salt shell covering the beads, c) separating the beads from the organic part, d) regenerating the beads.

  • Publication number: 20230158466
Abstract: A method for treating biomass to manufacture biomass beads adapted to an implementation in a gasification method, the method comprising the following steps: a) providing a biomass powder, for example a wood bark powder, the particle size of the biomass powder preferably being less than 200 ?m, b) providing an alginate solution comprising water and alginate, for example potassium alginate or sodium alginate, c) adding the biomass powder to the alginate solution and mixing, whereby a colloidal suspension is formed, d) dropwise adding the colloidal suspension to an ionotropic coagulation bath comprising multivalent ions, whereby biomass beads are formed.

  • Patent number: 9994784
Abstract: A reactor for grinding and roasting biomass, including: a chamber interiorly delimited with internal walls; a grinder laid out inside the chamber, including a central rotary shaft rotatably mounted in the chamber and grinding elements present on the central rotary shaft for grinding against internal walls and of biomass, or lingo-cellulosic biomass, present inside the chamber; a heater for heating and maintaining by thermal conduction via the grinder the biomass present inside the chamber, at a predetermined called roasting temperature between 200° C. and 350° C., to simultaneously achieve grinding and roasting of the biomass in the chamber.

    Inventor: Thierry Chataing
  • Patent number: 9903351
Abstract: A device for transfer of granular solid material between two chambers at different pressures. A piston type transfer pump device used in a horizontal position transfers granular material into the compression chamber by gravity and evacuates the material into the exhaust chamber at a higher pressure. Such a device may for example find an application for feeding a gasification reactor with biomass.

  • Patent number: 9777238
Abstract: A reactor for drying and torrefaction, configured for torrefying biomass, including a chamber in which two separate areas are delimited, a mechanism for mixing and transferring biomass from one end of the chamber to the other, a drying device in an upstream area of the chamber configured to dry the biomass introduced into the reactor, a torrefaction device in a downstream area of the chamber configured to torrefy biomass dried in the upstream area, and a transfer and sealing system configured to allow dried biomass to be transferred from the upstream area to the downstream area at time intervals, and to make the two areas mutually sealed during each interval. Such a reactor may, for example, find application to torrefaction of lignocellulosic biomass.

  • Patent number: 7469781
Abstract: A device for conveying inhomogenous solid matter, particularly biomass, includes an endless screw. The endless screw is located in a sleeve fitted with a counter screw, which allows better transportation, and the possible creation of a plug of compressed material at predetermined points on the screw, which isolates the device from the outside. The device can be coupled with at least one other endless screw, which can be put under a pressure greater than the device. The screw erodes the plug and transports the matter so obtained, for example to a pressurized reactor. With the device, a pressure difference between for example a raw material storage tank and a reactor does not lead to excessive cost in terms of pressurizing gas.
