  • Patent number: 8255166
Abstract: The invention is a method of constructing an image representative of a heterogeneous medium by a procedure of joint inversion of seismic data represented on different time scales having an application for underground reservoir exploration. Sequential inversion of the seismic data is performed so as to determine a first model from the seismic data expressed in a first time scale, and a second model from the seismic data expressed in the second time scale. A scale factor t1(t0) allowing synthetic data described in a first time scale to be expressed in a second time scale is defined by a differential equation relating the traveltime variations of a seismic wave to the models resulting from the sequential inversion. Finally, joint inversion wherein a cost function using the scale factor is minimized is carried out so as to evaluate a difference between the synthetic data and the seismic data expressed in another time scale.

  • Patent number: 7974785
Abstract: Method for evaluating fluid pressures in an underground zone by means of seismic and well data. The zone studied is divided into several time analysis intervals. For each of these intervals, a pre-stack stratigraphic inversion of the seismic data is then carried out using geological a priori information, and a lithoseismic facies cube is determined by lithoseismic analysis. Then, for each facies, relations connecting the seismic impedances of wells to differential pressures in wells are determined in each analysis interval. Finally, a differential pressure cube is determined using the previous relations, as well as a confining pressure cube, in order to determine the fluid pressures in the subsoil by simple difference between these two cubes. Application: petroleum sphere for the detection of overpressure zones during drilling for example.

  • Patent number: 7701804
Abstract: A method for constructing a model representative of a heterogeneous medium from data expressed in different time scales with application to hydrocarbon characterization. The method first estimates sequentially, from the data expressed in each different time scale, parameters or physical quantities of the model, described for each different time scale. Second, a scale factor allowing conversion of a model described in a time scale into a model described in another time scale is determined. This determination is carried out by minimizing the dissimilarity between a parameter estimated in a time scale and this parameter estimated in the other time scale. Finally, estimation of a single model is performed, by taking simultaneously an account of the data expressed in the various time scales, and using the scale factor found previously for the time scale conversions.

  • Patent number: 6522973
Abstract: A method of obtaining a representative 2D or 3D model of a heterogeneous medium described by multiple physical parameters (such as the impedances of the subsoil in relation to P or S type waves, its density, etc.) from various data. An a priori model with multiple parameters formed from known or estimated isolated values of the physical parameters and the initial model is improved by minimizing a global cost function representative, on the one hand, of the differences between synthetic records giving the response of the current model and the seismic records obtained, and on the other hand of the differences between the current model and the a priori model. These differences are measured in the sense of norms deduced from the a priori information on the uncertainties relative to the data and to the model, and the information can vary from one point of the model to another. The invention has an application for characterization of hydrocarbon reservoirs.
